IMO, if you attend the lectures and take good notes you should be fine. I didn't read much of my 100 textbook (Craven).

I found lecture very valuable - something I didn't in undergrad. However, they typically record lectures and post them on BlackBoard so if you know you will listen to them later, you can skip lecture. I thought first quarter was really hard and I was lost for the first half of it. How that I am in 2nd quarter, I'd love to go back to 1st as it was much easier!! Just don't get behind!!

Are you officially in the online program now Foreverlaur? What would you say about getting the textbooks for 110? I usually just rely on notes and lectures (at least I did for anatomy, phys, micro, and patho) since books are crazy expensive. So, how often did you use the textbooks for 110 and 100? Thanks for the info! I'm so excited for first quarter in the fall, although a bit intimidated after orientation. . .

The 100 textbook I used a lot (Health & Physical Assessment). You definitely need it for lab more than anything. You will also want the Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis (which I think they list as required for 110). Honestly, I would look into renting the 110 textbook or sharing with a friend or something because I hardly used it. The only time I ever used it was for 110 clinical where we had to do an organizational plan because the rationale must come from the 110 textbook (Craven). So far I have found no need for the Medical Dictionary they tell you to buy. We all use Google and/or SmartPhones nowadays :).

Lectures are definitely important. That is where you will get all the information you need for exams.

Yes, I am officially in the online program now. I'm extremely overwhelmed at the moment as 2nd quarter is A LOT.

Not gonna lie... first quarter kinda sucks. Lab feels like a complete waste, clinical felt like a waste to me because doing a head to toe assessment is something you don't need a real person for and it is in a LTC facility, and 110 lecture is painfully boring. It gets much better 2nd quarter in that you start learning "real" stuff, but it is much harder and the material like multiples times 10!!

So far, I greatly prefer the online program over the traditional one.

I think it will entirely depend on your instructors. However, most of us (4th q now) used Craven all the way through 3rd q and I know many who are still using it for rationales for careplans/caremaps.

I wouldn't get a book that was several editions old, but you should be fine with one that is only 1 edition out of date. The page numbers for readings will be different, but that shouldn't be difficult to figure out.
