CPNE clueless!!!!!

Published

OK, I am fairly new to this awesome forum. I will graduate soon from an LPN program with an associates degree. The online Excelsior course looks good and I have done some searching but I was hoping someone could make this simple, clear, and concise. Do you take all of the courses and exams, and then take the CPNE at whatever site is near you, and you're done??? Only one clinical performance? I understand it is difficult but I just want to make sure I understand the parameters. Any knowledge here would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Welcome to Allnurses, choppedliv!

You are correct in your assessment regarding EC.

I have to ask, though- why does your ASN program= LPN, and not RN?

I KNOW IT SOUNDS ODD, BUT IT'S ONE OF THE FEW LPN PROGRAMS THAT YOU EARN AN AD FOR LPN. YOU HAVE TO TAKE A BUNCH OF GEN ED COURSES AS WELL AS THE NURSING COURSES AND IT'S 18 MONTHS IN LENGTH. I DIDN'T HAVE THE OPTION TO WAIT FOR AN RN STUDENT SPOT TO OPEN UP IN MY AREA, DUE TO MY SITUATION AT THE TIME. I WILL DO MY 1000 HOURS AS LPN AND GO BACK FOR MY RN. I GUESS IT'S THE LONG WAY AROUND, BUT IT'S BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH VERY GOOD INSTRUCTORS!.

And hopefully that'll take care of a lot of your gen. ed. requirements when you do go on to get that RN. :)

By the way, most of Excelsior's courses for the ADN/RN are distance learning, not truly online courses. You gather the appropriate study material, study your material using exam content guides as your syllabus, and go take the test at a testing center when you're ready. And yup, the CPNE (clinical performance in nursing exam) is 2.5 days at the test site of your choosing. There is a lot of material on EC's website about the ADN/RN -- I recommend you download the nursing catalog and all that good stuff and give it a thorough read. :)
