Hello,
Has anyone taken the new CPHC exam given by McKesson? I am taking it in 2 weeks and just wanted some feedback.
Thanks! Star:nurse:

What is the CPHC exam? I have never heard of it.
CPHC is a certification offered by McKesson. It stands for Certified Professional Healthcare Management. It use to be offered as 2 seperate certifications, CPUR (Utilization Review) and CPUM (Utilization Management), has recently been combined. I am taking the certification next week in San Francisco. A lot of insurance information, Medicare, Medicaid, HMO's. I am a Director of Case Management in an acute care hospital and have worked for both a HMO and Medicare.

Just got back from attending McKesson's CPHC (Certified Professional in Healthcare Management) and I highly recommend it for anyone in UR/CM! Great over view of multiple topics related to the field! Exam was not that hard and speaker was great at preparing you to pass the exam!!

I'm sure you did great! A colleague took it recently and was afraid she did not pass as two of the questions were equally good answers in her opinion. She passed as we all knew she would. She had 10+ yrs in CM in an acute setting and has been UR now in hospital setting. She has encouraged me to just take the CCM through ANA and not this one as you really have to have heavy insurance experience for the CPHC exam. My CM experience is with DD nursing, Home & Community Based Waivers, and now with traumatic brain injury---none of which really give me a lot of insurance experience beyond Medicaid and Medicaid waivers. Hope to see a good post from you soon!

i got my ccm last year and am on the prowl for a new challenge...am looking into the cphc....
so do you have to attend the seminar to sit for the exam, or can you study independently?? i have sent an email to mckesson, but who knows how long they will take to respond!!
My coworker studied on her own time. We're in Alaska and the company would not allow LWOP in order for her to attend a study session in the lower 48 [seattle or Portland]. She would have had to take personal leave plus all costs involved for attending it. McKesson was very slow in responding to any of her emails but they finally did. She passed on the first try though she found the exam a little trying. I'm glad starryrose had a better time with the test than my friend did but I believe starryrose has much more experience clinically than my friend does which is such a blessing.

Hi Starryrose!
I'm a bit confused. I thought McKesson was administering the CPHM, which is listed on their website.

I searched their website for the CPHC, and could not find that certification.
Thanks for sharing the information about McKesson. This will help other professionals obtain certification and enhance their careers!

hi dria!
i contacted mckesson about their cphm exam, and received a prompt response. i used the "request more information" link where you fill out your information. you can call them to at their 1-800 number.
you can study independently and obtain your own proctor for the exam. you would need to contact mckesson and ask them for more information about this though. you need to set up everything yourself as far as proctoring and test site goes. once you do that, you have to email them the proctor name, address, and phone number. mckesson will work on their end with the proctor after you give mckesson the proctor information and test site.

We mean the CPHM. (Typos of the weary!)
