Continuing Education

Published

My nursing license expires in the very, very near future. I was under the impression that a license is valid for 24 months but apparently the initial license is valid for less. I just applied to have the license renewed and I am in the process of taking these continuing education credits. What am I supposed to do after I complete them/how or where do I submit them? As far as I know I am not being audited or anything like that I am just lost on what to do here. If it's pertinent, I am doing a first renewal in Texas.

Thank you

Looking on the Texas BON site, it looks like you don't need the CEUs for your first renewal (I didn't for mine in another state).

First Time Renewals

A nurse newly licensed in Texas either by examination or by endorsement from another state is exempt from the continuing competency requirement for the first licensure renewal. A nurse's initial license may be valid for a period ranging from six (6) to 29 months, depending on the licensee's birth date. Following the first license renewal, the nurse must meet continuing competency requirements for the subsequent biannual renewal periods.

Generally I print out the completed forms after I get a CEU. I keep them in a folder. My renewal state requests that we use CE Broker, which is an online resource to track CEUs. Some websites also will track them for you if you're logged on.

Thank you very much, I must have overlooked that excerpt. All this panic for nothing.

I use Ceu.elite.....big blocks Ceus cheap....... once you set up account they keep records of your ceu certificates....that you can always print if audited......they have been great for me...

I had to renew my license about 6 months after I first got my license as well, your schooling counts as the CE's needed for renewal. If you are continuing your schooling that also counts for renewal credits, so if you do continue with advanced learning keep that in mind.

Don't forget that every 3rd renewal you have to have a jurisprudence hours in Texas
