Considering Moving to NY..

Depends on where you'll be living in NYC. The cost of living in Manhattan is much higher than say Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx. Mainly because of rent, though it is pretty high in parts of Brooklyn/Queens. Might be harder for you to find a job in a hospital because of ADN, most hospitals look for BSN. I'm single and living alone (renting) so what I make as an RN in a hospital is more than enough. I say it would be just enough to support a spouse and a child.

I live in Manhattan and it is definitely expensive! The average new grad salary for a BSN I'd say is mid 80K-90K but keep in mind there are A LOT of taxes taken out of your salary, so you could easily only pocket around 65k depending on how many tax exemptions/allowances you can get. I also agree with Pyro, that most of the hospitals prefer BSN so that might be hard as well. I'm a new grad myself - I graduated in May 2017 with my BSN, and I just had my third interview at a hospital which will hopefully turn into a job offer. My point is, finding a job as a new grad in NY is extremely hard. All my friends who moved out of state (Boston, Phili) got jobs right away - even NJ its a little easier/quicker to get a job. Here in NY it's very competitive and just giving you a heads up you may be waiting a while to get a job unless you have some kind of connection at a hospital. With ADN you'll be looking at nursing homes or clinics. You can make 70 low end. I made 87k night shift nursing home 1199.

I live in Staten Island. Have a stay at home wife and children. I fair okay I would say.
