Competition for LPN programs???

Hi!

Wondered if in general it is easier to get accepted into an LPN program than an RN program? I have all pre-reqs complete and an Associate Degree in Medical Specialties. I am also a certified phlebotobist, a CNA and certified in coding/billing. Not interested in RN at this time. LPN fine with me. Thanks for your input!!:wink2:

It kind of depends on the school and possibly your gpa on the pre-reqs. Mine had over 400 applicants for 30 spaces but if you can believe it I think the RN program had even more applicants. You sound fantastic on paper so hopefully you wouldn't have any problem getting in a good program. Best of luck to you!

How many nursing programs, both RN and LPN, are available in your area and how many people are trying to enter? That usually determines how difficult it is to enter. Also to consider is the type of program. The very expensive private programs generally are easier to get admitted to than a highly competitive, well-priced community college program. With your qualifications, it sounds like you will have no problem getting into any program. Good luck.

In my area, they are both very competitive, but the RN is even more. I attended a community college that is now beginning to have the same issues with the competitive GPAs that the RN program is having, especially since our school has a bridge program. I do think that you have what it takes to make it through a program once being accepted, though. I had the same prudentials, and have been an LPN since June 2006.

As others have said, many things to consider are the amount of nsg. programs throughout the area, how expensive they are and such. Be sure that you review basic math, reading and science, because many have entrance tests. Purchase a review book to go over information and if you still have problems, take a continuing education course. Good luck!
