Does anyone else take this test as part of the points to get in the nursing program at their school?
I have to take this test and was wondering if this is standard at all schools. Also is it a hard test ??

I didn't take that test. I don't even know what a compass reading test is or what would be required for it.
Are you returning to college after being out for awhile? I know some schools require you to take tests in a few subject areas to see what level you are at and then schedule classes (pre-reqs) based on your current level.

I had to take it at the school I'm currently at. It was very basic, and I was not even given a time limit.

I had to take the reading and math compass test at my school and they only go off of these scores for admission (no prereqs or gpa, etc). Anyway, the reading test is very easy and there was no time limit. Mine was on the computer and you read a short passage and then answer five questions. I think there was probably 4 or 5 passages and then the questions that followed each. GOOD LUCK!!!
I ended up taking the test and did really well on it.:w00t: I made a 97 out of a possible 99.
My school takes this score as well as points from your BIO classes and Math class to get you into the nursing program. :yelclap:
Thanks for your replys.

I too had to take the compass test. I stressed over it before hand and ended up making a 93 on the reading, 99 on the english and the math part was good enough to qualify me for the math course before dosage calculations. Don't sweat it..

Community Colleges in Alabama (and most other states as well) are mandated by law to admit all students with a diploma or GED. They use admission tests like the Compass to stream line students into appropriate level Math and English courses.

Hello, I noticed a few of you had to take a compass test. I am applying for a fall ADN program and they want me to take a Reading and Math compass test. I am not sure what is on the math part. They wouldnt tell me what the general stuff is to study for. Can any of you that had to take it give me some ideas of what to study for. I dont know if its algebra, basic math, or what. I would appreciate any info you will give..
Thanks
Amy
Hi Amy. When I took the compass math test it starts out in pre algebra and the questions get harder each time you answer one correct. When you get one wrong it goes to an easier problem. I could only get so many wrong and then the test just ends. I'm not sure how high of a math level it goes to, we just had to worry about pre algebra, algebra, and college algebra. It had a lot of fractions and fraction type word problems, some graphing stuff, distance between 2 points, f(x) problems, ratios. I can't think of anything else right now but one thing that really helped me was I went to the library and did a search for compass books and they had a compass study guide that covers math and reading. And if you need to brush up on math (I did :) ) try math.com. Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck.
I agree with the last post... Math.com was the biggest help to me in preparing for the math part of the compass test.
Hello and Thanks for the info. I am 34 and have not taken math since high school. I have been taking all my science pre-reqs here in Germany. I love science but I am terrified of math. Its always been my weakness. I know its a must in nursing with dosage and all so I will have to get over my fear. I did buy a Algebra for dummies book..hehe.. It has helped, I just didnt know if I should study in one area of it more than other areas.. Thanks for your info though. We fly back to the states the end of April and I will take the test.
Thanks again
