Comparing BC and Alberta

Published

Hi! im an RN from the Philippines and would like to work in Canada. Would there be anyone around who can help me compare work in BC and Alberta? i know that nurses in Alberta gets the highest pay. Which among the two can process application faster?

thanks..:wink2:

They both take about the same amount of time to assess applications. Expect anywhere from 4 to 6 months minimum. BC wants 250 hours of supervised work experience in a Canadian hospital before granting registration. They both want a lot of money. And you have to be registered in the Philippines. You've already missed the deadline for applying to write the October CRNE, but you have to be given permission fromt he province to apply anyway and have to have your assessment done first. I think you're looking at February at the earliest in either province.

Most of BC has better weather than Alberta...

thanks for the quick reply. im new in this site so im still working my way thru the ins and outs

Someone posted that she applied both in BC and Alberta. She was granted a temporary registration in BC while was denied registration in Alberta.

Go to "CARNA registration advice please" in ths forum :)

In BC the exam deadline is Aug 7 2008 but you are right that you do have to get permission to write the exam first. My assessment alone took a minimum of 6 months. But haven't had a chance to take the exam yet.

thanks. i jst want to get an idea of the time frame because i am considering getting a job while waiting for it . i am a new RN, so i have no experience yet. do you think i should pass my application now to CRNBC? will they accept that? or should i get some work experience first before sending my application to CRNBC?

hope to hear from you. i want to get more information before i shed off any money/ time..thanks

You are not required to have experience if you are a new grad. I would get going on it and once you have approval to take the exam you can get a temporary licence while you are waiting to take the exam. You also have to do a 250 hour supervised practice so you could start that as soon as you get your assessment completed. Mine took 6 months.

Have you read any of the other threads on this subject? Many of the things you're asking about have already been answered. In a nutshell, It will take a minimum of four to six months to get from initial application to communication of status, BC requires 250 hours of supervised local experience for all IENs, and you will spend a LOT of money, several thousand dollars before you're in a position to be registered in BC. Or in Alberta, or any other province for that matter.

hi. i need to comply with the 250 hours of supervised nursing experience in BC before i can get my full license. being a non-resident of BC could anybody help me if it is possible to complete my work experience in ontario where i am presently residing? thanks

Ahhmmm, you've asked that question allready.....

and got some answers as well...

I don't think it's possible, since it's a province thing.

You need to ask the recruiter in BC that you've been dealing with that question. None of us here will be able to answer it with any authority.

You already have a thread going with this same question. If you are trying to complete CRNBC license, their registration adviser is the one to ask. Please let us know what you find out as other might want to know...
