narscathy, Janfrn and Silverdragon both have a point. We are applying to become nurses in BC, therefore we have to abide by their rules. If you think you deserve to be a nurse in Canada, you have to prove it to them that you are worth it. I too have to go through the SEC assessment. I applied in BC last Nov 2008 because there was no SEC assessment but unfortunately they started to include the SEC in their registration requirements just Dec 2008. Im scheduled for the SEC early next year so im preparing for it now. Goodluck to you!!!:)

They havent sent me that SEC Assessment Candidate Self-Assessment form yet. Now, what is that? They sure cant stop thinking of ways to make our application more complicated.

Hi ikang_714, From what country are you? How are you preparing for the SEC?

i was told 6 weeks before SEC results are released to CRNBC. i dont think you will get a copy of the result. I think CRNBC will inform you whether you are eligible to take the CRNE (meaning you passed the SEC) or you have to take another step (meaning you failed or did not meet the standards).

I have faxed my confirmation for SEC assessment. Im waiting for the next step. What bothers me is the time pressure of just holding a tourist visa when we dont know how long we have to wait for the results whether we pass or not. I wouldnt want to go there and just for the SEC assessment alone. If possible, i would like to wait for the results and hopefully know my status while Im there (whether eligible or take courses). Its going to be a big hassle to go back and forth Canada/Phil. I just hope that if ever I would need to take additional courses, I could convert my tourist visa to student visa without going back to the Phil.

anybody here knows how long can a foreigner on tourist visa stay in Canada? I have no problem with housing and expense since I have some relatives in BC. I just need to find the right timing to leave Phil so I can maximize my stay in Canada. I just hope results, and eligibility will be released within the scope of my stay there

Yes, my application took 2 months. The training Im talking about is like a work in the sense that I render nursing care to patients, give meds, carry out doctors orders, charting (basically all RN duties) except that Im not being paid since hospitals here in Phil are not hiring nurses. Im currently working as a "trainee" in a tertiary hospital. I need to take the complete assessment, i guess because they only have my transcript of records as reference and no work experience (because i didnt indicate my then few months of training then). I understand that I have to book CRNE 3 months prior to the schedule thats why the pressure and tension is quite high for me:uhoh3:

i passed my application Nov 2008, but i didnt include my training which started only in july 2008. While waiting for their reply, i was able to bank 7mos of work (aka training) experience. Anyway, Im planning to take the SEC assessment. Im from the Philippines and now starting to process my application for a tourist visa. I need to have a complete SEC assessment(MS, Maternal, Pedia, Psyche) which may take 1-5days. Do you know how fast the results will be delivered to CRNBC? Suppose i pass the assessment, how fast can CRNBC release my eligibility to sit the CRNE so I can apply for the next immediate CRNE sched? Im hoping to take the SEC and stay there until I can sit the CRNE to lessen the expense of going back&forth to Canada-Phil. I just hope that the immigration will be generous enough to give me a long vacation in Canada

I understand the side of CRNBC that they need quality nurses in Canada, and that SEC assessment would help them in this matter. It just saddens me that I would have to apply for visa, travel to Canada for few days, then go back to my country, then go back to Canada for CRNE, and so on. Its just so expensive. hi. I applied to BC right after I graduated because I thought id still be considered competent since im a newly grad. So i didnt write anything on the experience aspect of the application. While waiting for CRNBC response, I started working as a nurse and now has 7 mos experience. Sad to say, I just received letter from CRNBC stating that I need to undergo SEC assessment. Im so depressed to find out that some Filipino nurses received their eligibility without undergoing SEC assessment and I didnt. Do you think if I inform them now that I have experience, they would reconsider?

just to share, i have an Equitable visa credit card. I tried that with my application and they informed me that they could not access my card. later on, i found out that it is a classic local card, meaning it only works within the Philippines. So i opted for my father's international visa card...it was a success.

Hi. I have passed my application to CRNBC, now waiting for my eligibility. While waiting, Im already scouting for a possible employer. I believe part of CRNBC requirement is the 250hours work experience with a Canadian employer (it may be completed before/after the CRNE). Suppose I receive my eligibility, under what position can I apply thru the internet? Can I apply for RN position with my eligibility?

I too have 1yr of work experience. Silverdragon, are you saying that it would be easier to find a job once you're in Canada already? Because most institutions I applied to in the internet requires 2-3 years experience. I am hesitant to apply for a tourist visa in the fear of being denied. If I will apply for a tourist visa, will they grant me if I say that my purpose is to take the CRNE? Because truly I cannot deny that I am a nurse or else I might be banned due to false misrepresentation.
