Hello,
I understand that California is considered a non-compact state with the Nurse Licensure Compact. I have also learned that when a nurse changes their primary state of residence (PSOR) to California, the multi-state nursing license turns into a single-state license.
My question is, does a nurse need to change their PSOR to become qualified for a CA license? Can I simply add CA so I can still keep my multi-state license?
Please help!

Yes, you can endorse your license to CA without any effect on your compact license; so long as you maintain the compact state as your PSOR.
Nice! Thank you so much, chare. I appreciate your help.

I completely agree with Chare. The good news is that Washington State just joined the NLC (nurses with compact licenses will be able to work in Washington on July 24,2023), and Rhode Island just passed compact legislation. This means that 39 states are now in the NLC. California has had active compact legislation in the past. Soon all 50 states will be NLC members. This has been a long time coming, but is totally worth the wait!
