Combined NP/PA programs?

I stumbled upon a post in the clinical differences between NPs and PAs which noted that there were programs that combined NP/PA so that the practitioner was both an NP and PA. If anyone can tell me about those programs or info regarding them, it would be greatly appreciated. I really like aspects of both PA and NP programs and it would be great to have a combined option. Thanks very much for your help,J

Copied for the clinical differences post:

Unfortunately the Stanford program is no longer available:

The Davis program now has a separate FNP program as well as an option for RNs in the PA program to get their FNP with additional classwork (due to the requirement for an MSN to be licensed as an FNP.

The other option for nursing centric PA programs is the UND program that formerly only accepted RNs. It is now accepting non RNs in the program. Graduates do not receive a FNP degree.

Basically outside the UC Davis program, dual programs do not exist. To get your FNP after the PA portion of the UC Davis program you would need the following courses:

  • Nursing Theory
  • Nursing Issues & Ethics
  • Nursing Research A & B
  • Health Policy
  • Educational Program Development in Nursing
  • Community Health
  • Thesis/Project

These are available via distance learning. I believe they use Cal State Sacramento.
