Hi, I am an international student planning to study the ADN program at Columbus Technical College in Columbus, Georgia. I have some questions and I would appreciate your help.
- Are future work opportunities good for ADN graduates?
- Can anyone give me an idea about the college and Columbus city?
Thank you and have a nice day.

There are multiple opportunities for RNs. Three major hospitals in the area and they are always hiring.
Can't say anything about the the college, didn't grad there and it wasn't a college when I left Columbus in 73 - only had the LPN program then. Are you already accepted into the ADN program at CTC?
Columbus is the second largest city in the state of Georgia. It is set on the Chattahoochee River with an expansive Riverwalk. Columbus hosted the softball event for the 96 Olympics in Atlanta, and the *sports complex* was refurbished for that. Columbus is host to the Mudcats - baseball, Cottonmouths- hockey and the Wardogs - arena football. The downtown area is being revitalized and there are many events offered throughout the year. Columbus is also home to Columbus State University, part of the University of Georgia system. CSU's music center is downtown, also.
Columbus is rich in history, if you are interested. It was the home of Port Columbus during the Civil War and the National Naval Museum is located here.
There are many old homes in the lower downtown area that are historically marked. Columbus is next door neighbors with Fort Benning, GA, so we are military proud. If you have a choice about where you live, you might want to consider the northside of Columbus, that is just my opinion.
Good luck with your studies.

I have recently moved just outside of Columbus (have been here about a month) and will begin working at The Medical Center/Columbus Regional in August. I haven't gotten to see much of Columbus (other than The Medical Center for my interviews), but I am sure that I will learn my way around the city once I start working! As far as the prospects for an ADN, I graduated from an ADN program in Florida this past May. Although the pace was very quick, I feel that I learned as much as the four-year graduates from FSU, and from the response I (and fellow classmates) recieved while submitted applications for RN positions, we (the ADNs) had the same chances of getting the positions as the BSN graduates. For instance, the job at The Medical Center was the first application I submitted and the first interview I went on!! I'm still on "cloud nine" :)

Welcome to GA! May I ask, why did you select Columbus instead of Fl? Just curious. I don't start BSN until Sept. However, I want to practice in Ga. How is the pay in Columbus?
NurseDiva04,
There were two reasons why I chose GA:
1. The pay was much better than where I was living in FL
2. I was a "graduate" of the NICU at The Medical Center in Columbus and it has been my dream to one day work there
I feel that the pay is fair, I am making just under $20 an hour working nights...
My first day at work is this weekend and I'm very excited. As nervous as I was about taking my first "real" nursing job, The Medical Center has a VERY thorough orientation program...they don't just throw you out on the floor for you to sink or swim...
So far, this hospital has made a wonderful impression on me.
I hope this helps answer some of your questions...I apologize for taking so long to reply (I just got married, so I haven't been home much, what with the wedding being out-of-state and the honeymoon!!) Feel free to email me with other questions you may have!
Congratulations on your marriage! I wish you all the best. I moved to Philly this past weekend to prepare for my 11 months of nursing school. I wish you all the best in Columbus!

I graduated from Columbus State University and absolutely loved the nursing program there. Columbus is very nice and fast growing. There are 3 hospitals there. My choice would definitely be Columbus Regional. I worked there and did some of my clinicals there. Good luck in your search!! :)

Hi, I'm currently in the LPN program at Columbus Technical College and I love it. All the teachers are very nice and very helpful. I did try for the ADN program, but I couldn't get my NLN pre-entrance exam score high enough to get accepted. This is what the college is looking for to get accepted into the ADN program: 1.GPA
2.Compass exam
3.Interview
4.NLN pre-entrance exam score
The college only excepts 40 students a year and there is over 200 students that apply each year. Make sure that you have picked up a ADN packet from the ADN office and it will tell you all the information needed to get into the program. The ADN program is very competitive:uhoh3: My advice is to do good in all your sciences, compass exam, nln pre-entrance exam and the interview. Good Luck :balloons:

Is the ADN program still very competitive at Columbus Tech? I am interested in this program and I would like to know all of information about it. If there are any students currently going through the program, I would like to hear about your experiences. Where are clinicals held? How many times a week do the classes meet and all that jazz. Thank you for the info!
Yes...Columbus Tech is very competative. It is very hard to get into the program. I just got accepted into Southern Unions RN program in Opelika. It's not as competative as Columbus Tech. Good Luck if you decide to attend Columbus Tech.
