CNM Program

Does anyone know anything University of Cincinatti Certified Nurse Midwife program? I can't find a program in MA and this one is available online and I would have clinicals set up around this area (MA). I'm trying o figure out if this is a bad idea or not. It seems like such an intense subject to learn online. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!

hello, maledi,

many have done it online. and, you are correct, it is intense, just like any online program. but, i'm sure you can do it.

i know of a few who are looking into the program there. they have a good reputation. and, i have heard some do not like the program.

have you checked with frontier? they offer the opportunity to be cnm combined with whnp. and, if i'm not mistaken, the combined cnm/fnp.

www.midwives.org

also, the midwifery institute philadelphia university

There actually is a program in Springfield at Baystate Medical Center. It's a certificate and there is a part time option, and also an MSN option through UMASS Amherst.

A big consideration, I would think, would be who makes the arrangements for the clinicals. A number of the on-line nursing programs expect you to identify and set up your own clinicals, and there are a number of older threads on this board about the difficulties some people have had doing that. You may want to search and review them if UC expects you to take care of that yourself ...

Thanks a lot for the info. I had no idea about that program and looked it up. Thanks again, I iwll definately look into it.

maledi, I think SUNY Stony Brook also has a true distance CNM program: http://tinyurl.com/a9jhk

If you look at http://www.acnm.org, they list all the approved CNM programs (just be careful with their 'distance' designation because that doesn't signify a truly full distance program for some of them).

Good luck to you!
