CNEP FNU Class 139

Published

I submitted a post approximately a week ago in the student section, but alas, it got buried due to no replies. I applied to the CNEP Class 139 at FNU and was hoping to find some waiting buddies.

Hi,

I am looking into Frontier for the midwifery masters degree and would like some advice. I am in the process of completing my BSN in nursing, went back to school after getting a degree in family & human development. What were your GPA's for those who got in? Is there anything I should be concentrating on to help my chances of getting accepted when the time comes to apply? Thank you in advance!

My cumulative GPA was a 3.9; last degree earned was a 4.0. I have no L & D experience; however, I wish I did, because I am extremely nervous about the learning curve. I am one of those people who think previous nursing experience is invaluable. I've always believed that nursing school teaches you want you need to know to pass the NCLEX; the true learning happens when you start working. I just got accepted to FNU Class 139 and I am beyond excited. There is a Facebook group called Frontier Nursing University Hopefuls. If you aren't a member already, you should join.

Thank you for the information! You have no L& D experience but do you have any experience as a doula or labor coach? I know that take that into consideration.

No, I have no birthing experience other than nursing school (a long time ago) and the birth of my own five children. Like I said, I wish I had this experience, as I think it would be helpful, but it was not necessary for me to get into FNU as I have already been accepted.

That is absolutely amazing! Congratulations to you! I would love if I could keep in touch with you and you can keep me posted on how it goes? I am graduating in December and would love to go right into the graduate program. My husband is active duty military and we just found out we will be stationed in Maryland right after graduation as well.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I am happy to be helpful in any way I can. My husband is medically retired from the military. Got hurt while on active duty.

Fitzfam2009 - I'm a BSN student and hopefully future Frontier student, but I'm in Maryland right now. I can't find where I saw it, but somewhere on the FNU page I saw that they don't accept RN licenses from Maryland right now (something about distance programs and clinicals). Just putting that out there since it sounds like you might move before you get your license.

If I can find where I saw it, I will let you know. I'm guessing I'll have to apply for a DC license.

Hi Claritasd,

I will have an Arizona License since this is the state I will be graduating from. Also, being that Maryland is a compact state as well as Arizona, I shouldn't have to transfer my license to Maryland. Not sure id that makes a difference or not?

I also found this under the FAQ section

Is distance education an option only for those within a certain radius of the university?

No, FNU is an option for anyone, anywhere. We have had students in every state in the United States and even in foreign countries such as Canada, Germany, Japan and Costa Rica.

Yeah, I saw that in the FAQs but had also seen a note somewhere about Maryland - since I can't find it anymore, maybe it's been removed. It had to do with out-of-state schools having clinicals in Maryland.

Glad you'll be good-to-go with your license regardless, though!

Hmm weird. I did notice that there was actually a person who organizes clinical placements in Maryland, so maybe it was lifted. That would be good. =)
