CNA for RN

Published

I am starting the core nursing program this fall and currently work as a cna. I am leaving that job in a few weeks so I can have something more flexible with clinicals and study hours, etc. My school required students to have their CNA certification and having taken a training course. I have done this as I am currently working as a CNA. However, unless I renew my certification it will expire 2 months before I finish the program and graduate.

For the state of North Carolina, do I need to have an active CNA certification to take the NCLEX and apply for my RN? There is a lot of discrepancies between information.

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

Since it is the school's requirement, best to ask at the school.

Specializes in Mental Health.

In Wisconsin my school required us to take a CNA course so they don't need to teach us how to wipe butts in skills, but we never had to get our certification at all... Just pass the class. Can't imagine you'd have to be certified to take the NCLEX as that's all part of your nursing training.
