CNA Pre-requisits and evening programs

Published

Hi all,

I very recently decided to try for a career in healthcare. I want to eventually be a nurse and i've been looking into LPN programs but most of them are during the days and I work 8:30-5:00 which makes it kind of hard. I've also read a lot of articles about people saying that a good idea is to take a CNA programs and get a job as a CNA so you can get your foot in the door and get some real job experience and maybe the place where you work will help you pay for the rest of your education.

But anyways I was looking into the CNA program at PCCTI which is a year long(180 hours). I was wondering if anyone has any comments on this school/program. It is like $1,000 for the program and was also wondering what are the pre requisits for a CNA program if any?

I've also seen a lot of other programs during the day what are only around 4-5 weeks longs. How come some are really shorts and others are up to a year long?

Welcome to allnurses.

I would go to your states nursing board website and there it shoud have a listing of places that offer CNA training.

Also you could check your local community college for CNA training.

The only pre-reqs that I am aware for a CNA are a high school diploma or GED.

Good Luck

I know your frustrations. Check your area or go online and google NHC Healthcare. I just went thru their CNA program it was only two weeks, and it was free. After I graduated they offered me a full time position with their company. I am in Tennessee but I do know they are Nationwide. Goodluck

As far as I know, the only re-requisite is a high school diploma or GED.

In my state of residence (Texas), the only prerequisites for a CNA program are a 9th grade education and a minimum age of 16.

Thank you all for the replies! Yea i looked more into a program that is evening and that im able to do but it doesn't start until August 12 so i guess im going to have to wait. But im really excited about joining the healthcare career and taking my first step into becoming a nurse. I'm just a lil nervous about the whole CNA job but i know once i start learning more and then do clinicals i think i'll get use to maybe?

But i know that even though i'm new to these forums I can count on everyone on here for advice. I've read a lot of posts already and have been touched to see how everyone helps each other =D
