CNA licensing

Published

I was wondering if there is a certain age you have to be in order to hold a CNA license in Texas. I am 17 years old but I am graduating a year early. I want to start the LVN program in August, but in TX if you have a CNA license, you get 10 points on your application. The problem is that I dont turn 18 until December. I have a 2 month old little girl so I would like to get my CNA license so that I can work while going to school, but I didnt know if there was an age limit or not. Also, if there is an age limit, are there any loopholes in the rules that because I am a parent, I could maybe get it anyway. The class starts March 22 so I was going to look into this before I enrolled.

I'm not sure about Texas, but here in Nebraska you only have to be 16 to become a CNA.

I'm not sure, but I think that they would ask for a parent's signature, but you can still take the course.

Is it license in Texas, or certification?

In Connecticut its 16 to work as a CNA. We aren't licensed we are certified.

The best thing to do is contact the people who are running the CNA class and ask them about any age requirements.

(I doubt you'd have any problems. If you can start the LPN classes before you turn 18, I don't see why taking a CNA class would be a problem before you turn 18)

CNAs in Texas have certification, not licensure.

In Texas, one of the requirements for becoming a CNA is the completion of the 9th grade. I am unsure about the exact age requirement.
