? about clinical

hi

I am an LPN and I am currently enrolled with excelsior college for the RN program , I have nursing concepts 4,5,6,7 to take, after i have to sign up for clinical, which the waiting list is 7-8 months, I was wondering if there is a school I can sign up with to do just the clinical so I don;t have to wait for 7-8 mths

From what I hear, Excelsior does not currently allow students to arrange for their own clinicals, it has to be done through them. I would use that wait to really, realy hone in on those skills, because I hear that many fail it because they go into their old hospital habits (breaking infection control, shortcuts, and other things). These people don't know the candidates thus, have no emotional connection to them and don't care how much money was paid for the clinical portion, nor the incovienence of the student. Maybe an Excelsior student can answer this question, or you can go to the forum where they have distance learning. Good luck to you!

You do realize that it is really not a clinical in the traditional sense, that it is actuality it is a 2.5 test out day on your hands on clinical procedures. Some one else please correct me if I am wrong.

No, you are correct -- the CPNE is not "clinical" in the conventional sense, where you practice skills and applying knowledge under the supervision of an instructor. It is a pass/fail "final exam" of whether you are competent at all the required skills. It has to be done at an Excelsior-approved site with an Excelsior examiner; that's why there is a lengthy waiting list.
