CLEP Exams

I took the Human Growth and Development CLEP in place of Developmental Psychology. It was only $77 and $20 testing fee. There was a book made specifically for that test. I read the book cover to cover and passed the test. I would highly recommend it. The only thing different about the CLEP Test is that it's pass/fail, no letter grade. It saved me a lot of money and time. Also, if you have not done it already, Penn Foster College does Information Literacy course for $115, and it is quick and simple.

Yes they do accept many of the CLEP's, but not all.

EC does not accept the English CLEP

and the Human Growth and Dev CLEP is not a Humanities, but it is a Social Science we can do.

The CLEPs for Humanities are the 6 credit Englishes and the 6 credit Humanities courses....not sure of any more, it's been a long time since I checked

Since you need Humanities credits have you also checked out the DANTES Exams that EC also accepts? There is World Religions and of course the dreaded Ethics and they are also more reasonable in price.

I took Human Growth and Development for Lifespan and Introductory Sociology for the sociology credit (I think EC recommend Gerontology or something). Not difficult tests at all.

I took all my gen eds through the "cheaper exams". For your english you can take the uexcel. There is also Dantes exams that ECE with reward credits, and are around 70 dollars.

I am working on RN to BSN through Excelsior. I took their Ethics which had the advantage of giving me a letter grade, but it was a monster of a test, I heard the CLEP (or maybe it's DSST) version is much easier. I completed Intro to Religions a few weeks ago, it counts as 3 credits Humanities and all you get is pass/fail, not a letter grade. I am scheduled next week to take the 6 credit CLEP for Humanities, I will update on this board somewhere if I pass. I hear it's quite doable. Once more, one does not get a letter grade, just a pass/fail. I hear this is not a problem unless one has aspirations to pursue advanced practice degrees and/or CRNA as they can be quite competitive. I'll be happy enough with a BSN, which I'm only getting for "defensive" purposes (make sure I can keep my job).

Like a previous poster, I took the Penn Foster College Information Literacy. I got that suggestion here on this board and it's a great suggestion. If you take it through Excelsior, I think it's an 8 week course. Through Penn Foster, it can literally be done in an afternoon all with on-line resources and the price is great!

I have to emphasize that testing out like this is really a good deal for some of us. I've completed 10 credits towards my BSN in the last 5 months (6 by exam). If I pass the Humanties and the Statistics course I'm currently enrolled in, I will have completed 19 credits in 6 1/2 months and fulfilled all my general ed requirements. I am currently enrolled in a couple of the BSN nursing courses to start in a couple of weeks.
