I think your chances are pretty high. CRNA schools LOVE CCRN- and I think they like cardiac nurses. Where are you applying, I've interviewed at a few places in the South.

Hey CCUROB,

Your stats are almost identical to mine other than I work in a Burn ICU and my GPA is 3.87 and I was accepted to a CRNA program...starting in Jan '08, so I think your chances are really good.

Good Luck

Specializes in ICU, currently in Anesthesia School.

Depends on the program's applicant pool, minimum GPA or GRE scores as to whether those stats will get you an interview. Remember-the stats/experience/letters of recommendation get you the interview, the interview gets you the slot. With 6 apps you will probably get at least 1 interview. (maybe more)

One word of advice-Make sure you know what the minimum GPA/GRE scores for each school is before you apply. No sense in applying to schools that explicitly require a 3.5 and a 1000 GRE to be considered competitive when you know you don't have it. Call the program directors to see what they have to say about your situation. Most of them are very inviting and eager to help.

Hey Zissa1367, applying to LSU, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas Wesleyan, Texas Christian, University of Texas at Houston, UAB. Appreciate any tips/advice.... Thanks!

First, the minimum GRE for TCU is 1100.

UT at Houston requires 500 on each section of the GRE. Have you taken statistics and organic chemistry or biochem? (Required by UT Houston...don't bother applying without them) UT Houston also requires a BSN, what is your undergrad degree in?

TWU requires two out of four: 1000 GRE -or- 3.0 GPA overall -or- 3.0 GPA last 60 hours -or- 3.0 GPA science, so you may be able to get away with a GRE of 990 with TWU, depending on the various GPAs.

I don't know anything about the other three schools you mentioned.

Stats and Biochem taken, and I have a BSN so good there... contacted TCU and said to "definitely apply" that GRE scores are just one piece of the picture. I am retaking the test in September though, after I take a classroom prep course. I know SRNA's in school who have scored 800 or less and gotten in, but I still want the best score possible. Hopefully the extra certifications will give me an "edge," along with some volunteering teaching CPR, and excellent references. I want this so bad I can taste it:nuke:

Hey CCUROB,

I interviewed at LSU in March this year and got alternate. The interview was laid back, get to know you, they asked me the difference b/t CVP and PA, the only clinical question.

I've heard Samford in B'ham likes to take 4.0 students and high GRE scores, doesn't matter if you have one week or 20 years experience!!!!So that's good for all you new grads out there!

UAB won't look at you unless you have a 3.3 GPA, and they use the MAT more than the GRE. They have a new dept. head this year, so it might be different???

All schools ask in a "round about way" how you plan to pay for school.

I heard that OLTL really likes CCRN. Geaux Tigers!

Let me know if I can help some more.

Zissa, How much do you think a mediocre GRE score 970, 5 analytical will hinder me from getting in? Retaking the test in Sept. Do you think they will take into account CSC & CCRN to "compensate" for a sub-par GRE score? Thanks much.

First, the minimum GRE for TCU is 1100.

TCU prefers to have a score of 1100, but that is not a minimum requirement.

Just a CRNA
