This post is for anyone who has gone, going through, or will be starting Chamberlain's FNP program. I was just accepted to start in January, 2017. I am awaiting registration. I have a few questions about the program if anyone has time.

1. I've heard conflicting opinions on whether to double up on the beginning courses. I work 24-36 hours a week and have 3 children in sports and school. Would doubling up be a bad idea? I usually do not have to study much after reading material, but since I've heard the classes are paper heavy, would it be better to stick with 1 class at a time? I just want to finish sooner.

2. I would like to get a head start on studying as far as pathophys/pharmacology is concerned. What tools/books would you suggest I purchase to help me in that, so that when the time comes to actually take the class, I am ahead?

3. Are there any others starting the program in January with me? Also, any students in Indiana?

Thank you in advance to anyone who responds. I just want to be as prepared as possible!

Im currently in Chamberlains FNP program, I started last Jan.

I thought about doubling up on classes, and Im actually glad I haven't. Taking one class at time allows me to focus more on the papers and discussions. You'd have to double up quite a bit for it to make a significant difference in time. You can only double up on core classes, not FNP classes. Each class is about 2 months long so I think theres a potential to shave 6 months off, if you did it every time. However, I wouldn't recommend doing it for adv. research methods as Ive had to put quite a bit of effort and time into that class.

If you do double up, Id suggest doing so with nursing informatics, in my opinion that class was by far the easiest.

OP: Be realistic. With your home life and work load take one class at a time.

Question? What about the preceptor issue?

Do you have the several you will need lined-up? That's the kicker!
