CGFNS? I need your help!!

Hey guys , I am so sad and confused right now. I am waiting on my eligibility to sit the nclex exam. I have just received a letter saying that I need to request CGFNS but I am confused about this document. My current license was also sent from the UK over a month ago but they are saying they have not received it.

Thanks in advance .

Which state have you applied to and is it the state that has sent the letter?

I am in Georgia.Yes I received the letter from them today.

Have you applied to CGFNS for a CES report to be done and results to be sent to Georgia?

No I did not because I had no idea about CGNS. I don't know what it is or what they want me to do?

CGFNS do a few things and one of them is course evaluation. Georgia will not look at your application without CES. If you go to this link and then CES I would suggest you go for full course by course report and print the application off and post to CGFNS (would also recommend you use FedEx, UPS or other post carrier. You will also need to arrange for your nurse training transcripts to be sent from where you did your training and also NMC to send your verification of license. Takes approx 4-6 moths for CGFNS and they will send report to Georgia (don't forget to tell them that) and then Georgia will decide on whether to give you eligibility. When did you train and what if you specialised did you do? If in the last few years you may have issues if short on hours

My transcript was sent directly to Georgia nurse board, my NMC verification as well. I graduated from university 2005. I am an adult nurse.

Unfortunately you are going to have to do it again. You may have some issues but until CES is done there is no real way to tell. We have had some UK nurses struggle and some not, so hard to predict. Ideally you need hours both theory and practical in all areas Mental health, Paeds, Midwifery as well as adult. You need to follow Georgia requirements for international trained nurse and they do ask for CGFNS and this will cause a delay in your application.

Also are you aware of retrogression and that it can take you several years to get a visa for the US and once you have meet requirements and passed NCLEX will need a VSC from CGFNS. Should also mention we have a grea NCLEX forum under the student tab in the yellow tool bar above

I don't need a visa because I am a permanent resident here.

I need to request the transcript from the UK again? Do you know the cost of this service from CES? What do you mean when you say some UK nurses struggle? I really appreciate your help here.

Some UK training does not meet US requirements because of how the training is more specialised and are often deficient in hours, All costs are on the link I gave you for CGFNS. For CGFNS your transcripts and Verification has to come direct from your university and NMC

Thank you very much! I attended the University of Central England. I am not sure about the hours but I attended full time.

Unfortunately full time isn't the hours it is hours spent in all areas. If your transcripts doesn't show sufficient hours both theory and clinical in all areas then the BON will not allow you to take NCLEX. Best thing to do is get CES report done and take it from there.

I am currently going through this whole process after moving here from the UK. Each state is different as far as their requirements. Go to cgfns.org and you can find out all the info or check your state BON. Some states require CES and some require CP. CP means that they evaluate your credentials and if you qualify then you have to take the CGFNS exam. Once you pass that exam you can take the NCLEX. Be prepared, it can be a long process and expensive but worth it in the end.

CGFNS is much like the NCLEX exam but pencil and paper multiple choice. It is intended to predict how likely you are to pass the NCLEX. Once you apply for either CP or CES you can download forms to send to the UK to request proof of your license and transcripts from your nursing school.

The CGFNS exam is only held 2-3 times a year and not in every state. They do have an exam center in Atlanta. It then takes 4-6 weeks for results.

Hope this helps. If you need any more info I will be happy to help if I can. GOOD LUCK!
