CEU HELP

I'll tell you about how it is in Virginia. You get your required CEUs and print the certificates. Keep those. In VA, how many CEUs you need depends on your hours worked as an RN. So I always hang onto the last paystub of the year that shows cumulative hours worked.

VA does not require you to submit any proof; they require you to hang on to your proof, however, because they do perform random audits on nurses throughout the year.

For example, if you renewed in January of 2015 and attested you met the requirements for renewal, the Board could randomly call you in October of 2017 to submit copies of your proof. Mail them in and it's a done deal.

If you attest to having completed the requirements but cannot produce proof when asked, they will discipline your license, usually a public reprimand.

Look at your BON website to see their specific policy and procedure. VA lists their requirements under the FAQ” section. But that's how VA works.

My nurse license is up for renewal in about a year and a half. By my state I am required to get 25 CEU's to renew my license, at least 1 being in pain management. I know there are a few sites out there that have free CEU's, I'd also be willing to pay for some. Does anyone know what the best sites are? Also, after you complete a CEU, you print a certificate from what I understand. When you go to renew your license, how do you prove that you've completed all of your CEU's, should I keep all of my certificates?

Has anyone experienced fradulent sites where you pay for CEU's but then they are not accredited, and don't count for renewal?

I think it's easiest to hop on a pay site and knock them all out quickly ...but I also wait until the last minute to do mine. In California, we enter some number from the certificate(s) when we do an online renewal. Definitely save your paperwork. And as backup, keep track of the site(s) you used. Often, certificates can be reprinted when they're lost.

CDC.gov has several free CE offerings.

I do most of mine on medscape.org. They offer free ANCC contact hours. I don't print my certificates. I can log in and print them at any time. In Massachusetts, you just check a box acknowledging that you have completed the required 15 contact hours over the last 2 years. You don't have to send any proof unless you are audited.
