Certications for LPN????/

Published

I am wanting to add a few certifications under my belt. Does anyone know where I can find a list of Certifications that LPN are eligible to sit for. If you have a special certification what is it and where did you receive your education from?

Thanks,

AmiRah

Hi I am going to sit for my NCLEX-PN for the second time in July. I currently work as a graduate nurse and we were sent to take the TB certification class where we would be allowed to give and read TB results. I live in Indiana.

Check out the National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Service (NAPNES) at www.napnes.org .

Also, I know that the NBCHPN (the certifying agency for hospice nurses) has an exam for hospice LPN's. Hospice experience recommeded but not required. (www.nbchpn.org)

I can only say about my experiences. I am a BLS and ACLS instr and will soon have my PALS instr. I have my PICC cert from Bard. I have had several in-house chemo certs. Most national nursing organizations still have RN as a min requirement. I found that out when I took the ENA's Trauma Nursing Core Course and passed with a 96% to find out they could not give me a card.

In general, you will mainly get IV therapy certs and that is it. Not including the BLS/ACLS.

This varies from state to state. I am in Texas where any licensed nurse, RN or LVN, is allowed to administer tuberculin and read the results without any form of certification.

Same here. I am an LPN and give and read TB injections all the time. Never knew some states require a special cert. to do that. I wanted to get special certification in geriatrics but was told that only RNs are eligible to recieve special certifications. Oh well, I am happy where I am right now and that is all tha matters!!

I am a Michigan Lpn looking for a certification course in iv therapy. Can anyone help? angiebcs

Perhaps you might want to post your question on the Michigan Nurses' Forum. Good luck!

Frustrating isn't it. I have my IV cert might go for Napnes. Wish there were some others but I guess working on my RN should be enough for now.

I have my IV Certification/Blood Withdrawl certification. I want to be Would Certified but, from what I was told, you need at least a year of experience doing wound care before getting that certification.

Check with your state to see what certifications you can get.

Also there's a thread on the LVN.LPN corner on cerfitications:

Hope this helps!
