CE for CCM exam

I take in-person seminars as well as online training when offered through my employer. I exceed the 30 hours a year in CE.

I enjoy live classes but do not find many locally, I get a lot through AAACEUS.com you can click on the section that shows what is accepted for the CCM (and other certs/license) so you know ahead.

I will be applying for the next testing window in April. I'm doing my 30 hours of CE through the CMSA website (the webinars). Is this how most people do it? Or are there other things I should be looking at? I watched six of them so far and five of them have been excellent, the other one was so-so.

Of course I'm reading from the recommended list too, but I was just wondering how other people go about getting the required 30 hours.

I think you need the 30 hours to recert, but not to take the exam de novo; I could be wrong since it's been a while since I reread the new rules to sit the exam.

There's a pretty wide range of classes that are acceptable for recert CEs. Attend one regional CMSA conference and you'll get almost all you need right there; there are things in CaseInPoint, the CMSA journal (are you a member?); you can get on the mailing list for the nearest rehab hospital and they do inservices regularly both onsite and in more far-flung venues; almost any CE that has to do with any kind of rehab-eligible diagnosis will count.

Oh, my. I just read the certification guide again and wow. There is indeed no 30 hours required for initial certification. Well, the webinars are really interesting and I probably will watch more anyway!! Yes, I am a member of CMSA and am very glad that I joined.

I just posted under CCM exam study material suggestions, thought I would post this here too. I took the exam in April and passed. The most helpful advice I got was on this site; it was to do the Anderson CE CMSA Curriculum for Case Management Second Edition, Sections A & B ( have to get book and tests), "guided" reading. The second most helpful advice I got was to print out and learn the "Glossary of terms" from the CCMC site. With these plus my experience, I felt pretty well prepared. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, I'm also going to apply to test for the April window! As of Sept 17th, I have gotten 1 yrs of Case Management experience under my boss who is CCM certified...I will also have my BSN in December as well...Really worried about the exam as I have only done disease and complex telephonic case management. I have been trying to make a listing of good study items and bought an audio review off amazon already (although honestly her voice on there is grating and SOOOO SLOOOOOWWWWWWWW! when she talks it's a bit annoying).
