Ccsn-waiting Lists??

Hi i am currently a nursing student in Buffalo, NY well 'PRE' NURSING i applied to the program which only comes once a year so i applied for the fall of 07, and they can't evaluate my pre req's til the end of the spring semester, the advisor basically told me after my grades and pre req's are evaluated i have to hope that some people have dropped out, if there are not enough openings i have to sit on my tail and wait til next year to apply and i have no other courses to take in the meantime unless they're approved by the nursing department without being admitted into the program. Is there a similar situation going on at CCSN? If i wait til janurary to be admitted fine, i just don't wanna wait another year. Thanks! any help!

From responding to your other questions, I now realize that you are only a pre-nursing student (as am I -- I start the program at UNLV summer of 07), so I'm not sure why you are stressing about where you will get a job in Las Vegas when you have yet to even start a nursing program. You shouldn't be thinking about how you will obtain a job when you are finally a nurse, but rather you should be focusing on your current studies and how to get into a nursing program.

As for this question (I should be given an award for answering all these question.. hehe..), CCSN does not have a waiting list. CCSN looks at all the applicants every semester and ranks them by a point system. Go to their website and you can download the form on how they tally up their points. From reading previous posts on here, I believe the CCSN cut-off was around 19 points -- basically, anyone over that was accepted and anyone below that was denied. I know CCSN accepts a large student population to their ADN program each semester. However, I would call the school as I am not sure on all of this info. I am currently a UNLV student, thus I am not fully aware of whats going on at CCSN. Hope that helps.

I just applied for at CCSN for Fal 07. You have to have your application in by March and they go by a point system, you are either in or not, there isn't a waiting list. I hear it is competetive but from what I see from the points it doesn't seem that hard if you are a good student.

What's Ccsn stands for? Where is the school? I need a list of schools for the BSN program. I'm currently a pre-nursing student and need you help! Thanks

CCSN is the Community Colleges of Southern Nevada. CCSN does not offer a BSN -- they only offer an ADN. Here in Las Vegas, the only accredited BSN programs are UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas) and NSC (Nevada State College). However, NSC is under watch due to their low passing board rates.

Thank you all for replying...What is accrediation? Not all Nursing schools are accrediated ? Is USN is a good school for nursing?? Is the N-CLEX exam is only for California?? Or it's required for all states?

USN has been trying to acheive accreditation for sometime now, but they are constantly denied. Furthermore, their tuition is ridiculously expensive. They are usually the school that accepts students that shouldn't be nurses -- those nurses that can barely pass thier pre-req's.

It isn't a good idea to go to an unaccredited nursing school. You can still sit for the boards and become an RN; however, you will never get into a graduate school (if you choose to do so later in the future). Most hospitals don't check to see if your school was accredited, but I have heard of a few that do.

My nursing professor said that Touro was granted provisional accreditation, but Touro is ridiculously expensive as well.

I think it's fine that you are looking into where you might want to work, and thinking about your future. Of course focusing on your studies now is pertinent to get there but if you have no hope and no prospective outlook on your ultimate career choice, where will your sanity go? If it is your dream to move and work in Las Vegas, don't let anyone else tell you what you should or shouldn't do right now, it's your choices, your future, your life to plan not theirs. I mean checking out the job market for when you are done is a smart thing to do. Are you going to become a nurse if all of a sudden reports show a decline in nursing jobs over the next few years? If you wanted to move to Nevada (lets say you had family here) are you going to move here if your research shows hospitals have already hired all the nurses they will need for the next 10 years (highly unlikely but hypothetical) so go ahead and dream and look into your future. Another thing I wanted to point out is do your own research. I cannot stress this enough. Don't take information off these boards and hold them dear to your heart. I was told by the health advisor that there were close to 1000 applicants for that fall semester and the maximum amount they are allowed to accept is 124. It is very competitive. The 19 points was from the spring semester where they have less applicants so the points dip lower. But theu also didn't accept as many students as in the fall. 1000 applicants is a huge amount of applicants -- I think its crazy that that is the same scenario from all around the country. 124 spots each semester is actually a pretty large pool of students, especially for an ADN program.

I was attending a community college in Michigan where they had a very reputable ADN program, and they were getting approximately 3000 applicants every semester and only accepted 50 students. Some of my friends who were applying there were told that they would most likely have to wait 3 or 4 years to get in because of their placement at the bottom of the list. Crazy.

CCSN has to DOUBLE their admission by fall of this year required by legislature. So, Fall 07 will have 240 students entering the program.

That's 25% of applicants getting admitted after applying. However if there is a 1000, you will find that not all of them qualify or have a high number of points.

Where did you hear about that, or read it? I had heard about it last year from another student, but I've never been able to find anything online that states that.
