Ccsn Program

Hey Checkmate! How's the semester going for ya? This one flew by....Anyhow, I don't know the point cut off, I think you know that last fall it was 21 with close to 800 applicants. This year they only had 422 applicants, so I am anticipating it to be lower.

I wonder why CCSN had half of the applicants this year compared to last year? Hmm.. odd.

With so many new schools now I guess their applicant pool dropped. I know alot of people who already had their prereq's done but opted for CCSN in the past because they had issues with UNLV and at the time those were the only two programs in southern nevada. Not anymore. How many programs are there now? Let's see,

UNLV

CCSN

NSC

Touro

Am I forgetting any?

I know alot of people who already had their prereq's done but opted for CCSN in the past because they had issues with UNLV and at the time those were the only two programs in southern nevada. Yeah, I guess thats true. I would think that most would still try to apply at CCSN because of how expensive a few of the others are.

I agree. And I originally was thinking alot about cost. Plus CCSN has such a good program. But you know, I'm just plain tired. I've been working fulltime and taking prereq's for 3 years now and I just want to get into nursing school already. Plus, I already have BA and MS so I didn't want to do the ADN route. Also, some of these private programs have outstanding faculty and since they're new there are fewer students and more individual attention which means something to me too. I think there are alot of career changers like me out there who maybe have similiar thinking and so have decided not to apply to CCSN. Just a theory.

Out of curiosity, Dee, what type of career are you switching from? Any particular reasons why you chose to pursue Nursing instead?

Out of curiosity, Dee, what type of career are you switching from? Any particular reasons why you chose to pursue Nursing instead?

I like to think of it as pursuing nursing "in addition to" rather than instead of. I have a BA and MS in psych and was a children's therapist in my home state before moving to the West where I am now in social services management. Before going to college I never knew anything about nursing, never met a nurse, etc. so decided to pursue psych because it was a helping profession. After graduation I worked for a couple of years on a locked psych unit and was also floated around the hospital as a CNA. I finally got to see what nurses did and wanted to pursue that as a career. But, at the time there was no nursing shortage in my area, and no money, plus I had alot of student loans to pay off. Just around that time I got a good state job too and couldn't turn down the salary. So I eventually completed my MS too and became a therapist. Still no nursing shortage where I'm from (rural PA) as a matter of fact they just closed down a hospital there too. I was plugging along, not particularly fullfilled but ok, mentioning nursing school to my dh every so often (he really encouraged me to go back but I refused because we didn't have the money and where exactly was I going to get a job around there?). Finally, I experienced a couple of life events that caused us to be free to move around and once I got out West I started working on my dream. Life is too short. I intend on eventually getting my psych NP.
