CCRN tips

Published

Hi,

I am a nurse working in a med/surg and cardiac ICU. Do you have any tips on taking the CCRN? My goal is to take it early this year. Thanks

I would not sweat the CCRN, it is a fairly easy test. I know of one nurse who failed it and she just had test anxiety. These companies make money off the testing process and is does them no benefit to make the test difficult. I think the stats they provide are 70-75% of first time testers pass. Mind you, they come from a variety of different critical care settings from very advanced to borderline med/surg. So that is a pretty high pass rate. Overall though the test is cake, just read the questions and answer from what you know.

Have a look at http://www.nu2icu.com for good basic ICU information. We all start somewhere...

I think the BEST source of information is the online review that the AACN themselves developed. You are getting content and test-taking strategies straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. That was my only resource and I passed first attempt no problem.

Find a guide to the CCRN similar to what AACN sells. I used the Kaplan book and it provided lots of meaningful topic coverage. It would also be helpful to find a breakdown of what the test is now covering with respect to percentage breakdowns.

You also will encounter test structure similar to this:

CCRN Practice Test, CCRN Practice Exam Questions

Pass CCRN! online test bank. Did that for two weeks.

Pass CCRN was a fantastic guide and is a pretty good indicator of the types of questions that will be on the actual exam.

meanmaryjean, DNP, RN , did you use any practice exams to go along with the AACN review. Im actually doing the review right now and find it is very thorough. Were most of the questions from the review itself?
