I have signed up to take the CCRN exam. I really don't know where to start studying. Any advice from those who have taken it in the past? What studying materials should I use?

Let me preface by saying that I took this test over 10 years ago. I found that years of working in the ICU is enough to have a good understanding of the concepts on the test, however, doing multiple practice tests seem to be a more predictable way of passing the test because it helps you get used to the language used in the questions. As in most other exams, multiple choice type questions always want the "best answer" option. I also feel that you have to get "in the mode" of how the Psychosocial/Therapeutic Communication questions are phrased so that you can easily figure out the best answer. Practice tests are available online to be purchased. I've worked in units where the manager has a copy for staff to borrow.

A- ICU experience.
B- Lots and lots of practice questions- with rationales. Some sources also include test taking strategies.
C- 2 day review.

I just took this test and passed recently! I used Laura Gasparis’s review, she has an online version you can purchase for $125 and access the videos and print the powerpoints. Also I used the Pass CCRN app to do their practice tests and questions. I got the Kaplan book and used it a little, mostly for the practice tests, but I didn’t spend the bulk of my study time there. For a couple months I meandered through some topics and practice questions leisurely but then buckled down and studied hard for 3 weeks before the test. Good luck to you!
