Courses that need to be completed prior to beginning nursing school...they depend on the program. Pretty much for any RN program you're going to need:

Anatomy & Physiology I & II \

Chemistry - Inorganic & Organic these are the science requirements

Microbiology - just 1 semester...I think /

?Physics for Health Profession

Nutrition

Psychology

The other prerequisites vary: English, History, Government, foreign language...etc., the usual stuff.

(These were the requirements when I went to school...many, many years ago. I'm sure someone who has been a little more recent will update further if there have been changes.)

Every school has different requirements for prerequisites. Some schools have a lot: others have very few. Some schools have a general requirement such as "a year of basic science with a lab" because they include things like anatomy, phyisiology, etc. as part of the nursing program itself. Other schools require that you specifically take courses such as anatomy, physiology, etc. before you begin the nursing courses because the nursing program does not include that content.

You are going to have to identify a few schools that you would consider attending and ask them about their prerequisites and their admissions process. Every school is different. There is not a set standard that applies to every school in the country.

Good luck! I hope you find a school that seems a good fit for you.

Something I ran into is the BSN programs require Statistics now. And in order to do that one must have taken college algebra....this was not required in my diploma program. The math requirements surprised me. But now most BA/BS courses seem to require this.

you'll need all the schools core requirements, plus most require sociology. all of them pretty much want a&p 1 and 2, micro bio, psych, stats, a diet/nutrition class and some also require a chem class.

Thank you for your information. I will check on that once i get to the school.
