Can't Decide...which is better?

I can't decide... to apply for Public Health Nurse jobs or take the LTC job?

In the long run, I won't have any hosptial experience and will have difficulty getting my foot in the door...

Apply for both and go from there. I would think the LTC job would get you closer to your goal of working in a hospital.

I agree LTC will help you with patient care, time management, and med administration that are similar to a hospital's. LTC can be affiliated with hospitals, or at least have a hospital they send their patients to when an acute need arises, so it may be more of a foot in the door than you think.

Administrators know what the market is like, so it is recognized not all new grads are getting hospital positions. LTC shows you aren't afraid to work with patients.

best wishes!

From the way you've phrased that, it sounds like the LTC job is currently being offered, while you'd still have to apply and everything else for the public health job. Take what's being offered. You can just stick it out for a year, if you really don't like it, but a year's experience in an LTC, gaining experience in developing strong experience with patient/family communication skills will be gold on a resume. (At least that's how I'd spin it.)
