where can LPNs work?

As an LPN for 24 years, I have worked LTC, hospitals, agency, home health, private duty and for a major medical health insurance company. I know other LPNs who have worked in MD offices, clinics (such as WIC or Planned Parenthood). All of these openings are not always immediately noticeable, but get out and scour ads in neighboring areas, get a little net working going, you can find things other than LTC!

Hey guys. I was just wondering where can LPN's find jobs besides in nursing homes. Do any of you work at a doctors office or ugrent care type setting? Ive seen some postings in job forums a long time ago for LPNs or MAs. Can a LPN substitute for a medical assistant? I am going into a LPN to RN program but would like to find a good job in the mean time and I do not want to work at a nursing home. Thanks!

Many LPN work in MD offices, and many times are preferred in this position depending on what kind of duties are needed to be performed. There are also many LPNs that work in Urgent Care, and not to long ago a friend of mine did a contract in a Ohio hospital as a Telemetry Tech.

There are many jobs outside of working in nursing homes for LPNs, so look around as one of the posters said, and you maybe very surprised at what is available. Good Luck!

I work in the PCU/CCU of a hospital. I love it there. I am just now training to take on CCU patients. I will start the transitional RN in June.

HI LPNs can work in a great deal of settings. I currrently work in LDRP taking care of mostly postpartums and in the well baby nursery. I also worked in med surg for a year. However my first job was in a MD office, family practice. Some CMAs there. The pace was a little slow that's why i left to work at a hospital. I think you can apply if you see a cma want ad it can't hurt. The pay is alot less though. Look around and ask around there are many oppurtunities out there. Hope you find what makes you happy.

I started out in a nursing home, then I worked on a subacute rehab unit in nursing home, and now I work at a hospital in mother-baby. In my area there are an abundance of job openings for LPNs in clinics and doctors offices. Most of then advertise for specifically LPN while a few say CMA or LPN. If you want to transition to RN, I think the best place to start is a hospital if you can. Most hospitals will pay for you to get your RN and your hours will be much more flexible than a doctors office or clinic.
