Can I get an entry level job in a Holistic practice first?

I have been almost addicted to Alternative/Holistic Nursing but yet have no degree.:redbeathe I would love to get in on the ground floor of a practice but do not know if there is any chance in this.:nurse: If I need a degree, what is a good one to get started with in Holistic Nursing.?

In order to become a Holistic Nurse you must first become a Registered Nurse so that is the first degree I would start working on. =)

I guess I forgot to mention I am an Registered Nurse already. I belong to the AHNA and have some certs in Aromatherapy, Advanced Reflexology, Basic Herbal. But I was wondering if Holistic practices would accept an RN without a degree. My speciality was Geriatric/Subacute....so thats 17 years of that. But I am tired of the Medical Pill pushing scene. Any ideas?

I have searched online and found some private practices that are using holistic nurses but they all have taken the board examination, and I assume have graduated from accredited programs. I would think that in the Geriatric area there might be more demand for this but I know LTC's would probably not be open minded to it. It seems like a lot of AHNA's members work in hospitals, I just did a research paper on this and it was like 40% of the members. Maybe if you go to the yearly conference you could meet with some like minded people.

I am hoping to be able to get into Holistic Nursing myself, I am a pre-nursing student right now. The next majority of AHNA members are Nurse Pracitioners, then you can start your own practice. This is what I am hoping to be able to do myself, or to work with someone who has gotten to this level, such as a ND, chiropractor, or holistic minded md etc.... I am also wanting to look into what the restrictions are for Holistic RN's who are not Nurse Practitioners to offer Home services for these things. Being a freelance Holistic Home Health Nurse sounds wonderful to me...but the legality of it all I am not sure about.

I don't think I am much help but it is fun bounce these ideas around. I am in S. Fl and I hope to go to FAU for a masters in AHN and FNP, after I get my BSN from MDC, they also have a individualized track, where you can blend programs, that I want to look into. I would think going to a AHNA conference though would be a good place to start and network.

Thanks for your help. I feel as long as you are well insured with you are covered working privately as a Holistic or Private Nurse. Good luck with your endeavors in South Florida, I am far up North in Vermont. My landlord lives in your state. I dont know what to take first of course that would really give me a boost if I apply for a job in a Ostepath, Naturopathic, or any Holistic/Wellness setting. Guess I just have to nosey around to places here in Vermont. Thanks again.

Good Luck! Let me know how everything goes for you =)

Did you ever find a FNP program that taught more of an integrative approach instead of 100% allopathic?
