Camp Time Coming

Howdy.

Anyone else here do anything with Diabetes Camps? Just looking to see what all is done with other camps.

I have been attending our local diabetes camp for the last 7 years or so both as a Counselor as well as a Camp Nurse.

I have not done Camp Nursing for a few years now. I did want to thank you for your post. I was wondering, are you an RD?

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I am utterly amazed and impressed with those who choose to become camp nurses.........MY idea of "roughing it" is a Motel 6!! :chuckle

Now, if you could set me up at the Doubletree Inn as a hotel nurse with my own room and hot tub, an ocean view, and private balcony...... :rotfl:

Oh no Never an RD. I love them to death but I don't think I could do what the RDs I know do.

I am a CPN. (Certified Peds Nurse). So basically an RN with a National Cert.

Great Tizwit, thanks for posting!

Do you mind my asking is the camp in the Alb area? I lived there for several years some time back. I am about to go to Farmington to attend the Diabetes Conference there through IHS.

Yups its the ADA Camp In Albuquerque.

Specializes in Camp/LTC/School/Hospital.

Hey, What's a RD??? Maybe I'm not awake yet, but I can't figure it out. I like to tell people that I "rough it" at camp but nurses usually have the best accomidations at camp. Two more months until camp!!

Oh Yeah!! I guess my accomidations are good. Although my husband also works there, and my boys ages 11 and 14 come with us, we share a room together all summer. We have air conditioning!! I love togetherness :chuckle Its a great experience for our whole family, this will be our 3rd year, its a special needs camp, my kids have learned a lot from the experience.

I have my own room in the health center with private bathroom. So it's not too rough, and of course there's no cooking, cleaning or laundry. It's just my style - opportunity for lots of time outside with a nice place to sleep. Living in New England, we get excited about being outside all we can in the summer. It's so brief, and it rains often enough to cut into your fun time.

I am envious, wish I were going.
