California LVN program

Please help me rate/decide between American Career College and Casa Loma in Hawthorne.

Cost, student/teacher turn over rates, experiences that any of you have had with the schools.

I completed Casa Loma College's LVN program in October 2005 at the Van Nuys campus. The tuition was $19,995 for 1 year. 24 students started in our class in October 2004, and 22 of us ended up graduating 1 year later. The student and teacher turnover rates weren't too bad.

WOW! $20,000 to attend LPN school? CA is ripping you guys off!! Do you have friends/family in NC? Community college is cheap! I think about $7000. I have been out of school since 1996. The biggest problem with paying that much in tuition is that CA doesn't pay well for LPNS. (unless you are a traveler) Just left there in Oct. after a year in Northern CA. I cleared $1200 wk, but I know that the other LPNS were not making that. Also you are very limited in CA as to what you can do. The last fulltime job I had in NC I monitored chemo, had IV certification, ACLS, PALS, puhed most IV drugs except for a few cardiac, TPN/Lipids, inserted huber needles in portacaths, basically I did everything the RN did except charge (in the hospital) Good luck to you. Hope you can find a cheaper school!

When I attended community college in California, the cost per unit hour was $18. Therefore, community college in California is relatively cheap, too.

Some of us attended expensive, private LVN programs to avoid the waiting lists, prerequisite classes, and the red tape that accompanies so many community college nursing programs in California.

that's true because I'm currently attending ACC and its like 27k so CA's private institutes are really up there in price...
