CA temp license

There is no "expedited" process. That is just agency malarky. The only way to speed up the process is by traveling to CA to be fingerprinted there by Livescan. It can take as little as one week that way if you have all your ducks in order to four weeks currently. With fingerprints by mail, there is no way to guess to time frame.

Don't let a CA license delay you from traveling. Start in another state.

I did it back in November. I did the livescan process that uses the Fingerprint cards and my agency has a person in California that walks everything through in Sacramento. I had my temporary license in 5 days. My full license just came through last week, 3 months later. Temp license is good for 6 months though....

When I started I lived in Colorado and traveled in Colorado for a couple assignments now I am on my 4th in Oregon. I will go to California in june.

Yes, the California temp is only 6 months, but it is renewable. Good thing too for some nurses who may have an education issue or the BON has another nervous breakdown. I know one traveler who worked on her temp for over a year.

My husband and I are both travel nurses, and we got our Livescan completed in CO while on another assignment. The company who completed them sent them to CA for us, about a 48 hr turnaround time. This was done the second week of January and we just got notified of our temporary license got approved on March 13th. We had already submitted everything else, so the prints were all they were waiting on. Keep in mind, they are notorious for loosing paperwork! If it is an option for you, I would definitely recommend hand delivering everything (except your fingerprints, of course).

Might I add, ANYTHING I mailed to them went certified so I had proof they received it.

The provider in CO simply sent paper prints to CA. There is no other way to do it outside CA. The law would have to be changed first. Time to your license is typical for mailed prints. Current time if you do Livrsacan in CA can be under a week for the temp.

Livescan has a service that AmericanMobile uses. You do the Fingerprint cards at your local pd, overnight it to livescan and they scan them in then overnight the livescan confirmation back to you. You then send the confirmation in with all your paperwork to the board. I did it this way and it took under a week for the temp. Still 3 months for the permanent.

Hey All! just wondering if anyone has recently applied for/received a temp license in CA? currently licensed in NY, my agency pays for and has what they described as "expedited" process for a temp license. I was told 4-5 weeks approximately but thought it couldn't hurt to ask if anyone has encountered longer/shorted times. Thanks!

I am a little late to the party here, My CA license took 6 months from application for reciprocity or endorsement to approval. Longest wait for a license ever!

That's very interesting. The California law on the subject states final completion of prints by a certified California Livescan provider in California makes out of state collection legal.

However, I tried last year to organize a group Livescan at the Las Vegas Travelers Conference by a California mobile Livescan provider doing the Livescan in Vegas planning to upload results to the DOJ later when physically back in California to meet the letter of the law, two different companies checked with the DOJ and were told that was out of bounds.

Since I'm the kind of guy who likes to clear up discrepancies with a primary source, I tried to confirm with the DOJ but couldn't find a good phone number. So I decided to take these two certified companies at their word, especially since it took both of them several days to get the answer back from the DOJ.

Now I'm wondering again. I'll have to check this out with American Mobile and trace it back. But frankly, I don't see the point of paper prints here. If that is legit, transmitting the Livescan original to a California provider is identical legally.

I agree and was Suprised that's how it all went down. I just fedex the 2 Fingerprint cards, copies of drivers license and passport plus a check for their fee and it was done.

I will be looking into this further. I just received an email from an agency offering airfare to California just to get Livescan prints done. This agency happens to be walking distance from the CA BON. Seems like a lot of money to be spending if you can just overnight prints for a fraction of the cost of airfare.

It seems to me most probable that the CA provider was operating outside of the scope of their license. I'm not sure how the DOJ could figure that out without a tip. I asked the two providers I sought quotes from to go to Las Vegas about that, but they wanted official confirmation from the DOJ before going forward.

There also could be a small risk to your own license if your prints are found not to comply with CA law.
