CA bvnpt processing time

Published

Hello, just wanted to know how long it takes for bvnpt to process applications for lvn exam? The website says 26 weeks and I have been waiting for a whole year. What is really going on with them? Is anyone else having problems with them and waiting so long thx.

I would follow up to make sure they even have your paperwork.

Oh California--their Board of Nursing is notoriously slow and unresponsive. As an FYI, one AN poster called them a couple of weeks ago and said she waited on hold for literally an hour and a half just to be put through to a voicemail. Be prepared for a long wait.

They are horrible. It took me six months to get a California license (and then ended up not moving there). All calls went to a recording that told me to try again later. Then I found a newspaper article where the Governator fired nearly the whole board and replaced them. I finally got through to a live person who said my fingerprints were holding things up. I contacted the fingerprint place who confirmed with the DOJ that they had gotten through.

I finally did get a license. They are unbelievable.

California actually has a separate BON for RNs. The one that handles LVNs (BVNPT) seems to be a little faster. A 26 week wait time means you're doing the equivalency method, right? Have you tried to contact them? A year seems excessive, but maybe verifying everything is holding them up? I don't think it's a terribly common method of becoming licensed, so it might be difficult to find people who've had personal experiences.

I didn't know they had separate boards. Still, when one is waiting to be employable, 26 weeks is a lot of paycheques not coming in.

True, but on the bright side you get to skip actually going to nursing school. It seems like it would take less time and be less complicated to just go, though.
