Burnout...am I the only one?

Published

Am I the only one feeling burnout at their job? I have been an LPN for only two years. I work in a memory care unit and work 12 hour shifts. I absolutely love my patients, but, the paperwork and the management are just about to get the best of me. The only great thing I can say is my supervisor has been the best you can imagine. I go to work with the mindset that my shift is going to be the best day yet and that I will make a difference, but, by 3pm I am "brain dead". I don't want to leave the nursing profession, but, I am seriously thinking about starting another career.

Any thoughts on this?

Have you ever thought about a different area of nursing? Like home health or something. I hope things get better for ya!

I would consider another area as well, and/or going back to school to try for your RN which might open up even more options. I had a couple of teachers who did home health and loved it. Maybe you could even do traveling?

you're not alone...

A change of setting may be what you need. Also a stress reduction program for yourself would be a good move. If you change look in LTC Some of the neatest people live in nursing homes.

I don't think your the only one at all. Most of the nurses I know at the 2 year mark at one place are ready for a change. You might just be in need of a change!! Most of our nurses leave and find something else at the 1-2 year mark and are always happy they did.

I see myself working where I am now (and I love my coworkers, etc but am getting sick of the hospital and Ive been on my unit for 1 and 1/2 years now) until this summer, then I plan to get a home health job. I want something more flexible and with more autonomy and freedom even if it means a pay cut. The hospital can be a hard place to work, I don't see how anyone does it for years on end.

Like other said....home health, going back to school, etc. And there is nothing wrong with looking for another career either if your just sick of nursing!
