BSN preferred?

Published

Hello All,

I've recently been accepted into a nursing program here in NY:monkeydance:. So I decided to conduct a research on my future career,I've noticed that alot of the Hospitals in NYC have job posting that all specifically state that BSN preferred:scrying:.

I know that there are alot of ASN degree programs thoughout NYC, so I could not understand why BSN would be stated as preferred. Does that mean that it will be difficult to find employment after graduating from a ASN program:banghead:.

Does anyone know of hospitals in the five boroughs that hire new grads with ASN? I intend on pursuing a BSN and even a NP degree someday, but I want to make sure that I will be able to work as a ASN while I pursue those goals. How likely is that? I know I am a bitt early with these questions since I am just starting out, but I was on NYU, Columbia-Presbyterian and Lenox Hills website and notice the dreaded BSN preferred requirement and I started to freak out. I am a worry wart, so panicking is second nature to me :chair:.

Thanks for listen.

It means exactly what it says: A BSN is preferred. If you have an ASN, you can still be hired, but a person with a BSN will be given preference.

remember, preferred doesn't mean required, so I would still go ahead and apply. Good luck and congrats on getting accepted to the program

I agree with NYDreamer. It says it is preferred, not required.

I have found that personality can get you a job easy. I have a BA in sociology and worked at a financial service firm knowing NOTHING about finances at all because I was able to charm my way into a job.

You can still get a job as an ADN student. BSN preferred means just that.

If you are still feeling uneasy go on a hospital website and check their employment section. Most hospitals require that you have an RN license to practice. Don't worry just enjoy your next couple of weeks off before you start nursing school.

CONGRATS!

I know for a fact (because I work there and I have an ASN) that you can get a job in the North Shore Health System (I work at LIJ). NYHQ in Flushing hires ASN's as does New Island Hospital, South Nassau Hospital and Winthrop.

Don't worry...you'll be fine.
