BSN to Nurse Practitioner

Hello everyone and Happy new year!. Please do not judge. I thought all nursing programs were accredited, until I am about to graduate with my BSN and found out that the nursing program that I am in is not. My goal is to become a mental health nurse practitioner. My GPA is high, but schools that I have contacted will not admit me to their program because I am graduating from an unaccredited program. Is there any MSN program that admits students with BSN from unaccredited program? Even if I have to take the GRE test. Please any options/feedback/ are appreciated.

    Yes, I am eligible to take the NCLEX. My class is not the first cohort. The ones before us are doing great, and have no problem to find job. Most of them past the NCLEX within the first attempt.

    The OP will be able to take NCLEX in all likelihood because there is not a single state in the union requires accreditation out of nursing programs, although this fact surprises many people. Hence, state approval to operate is just about all a nursing program needs in order for its graduates to be eligible to take NCLEX.

    Accreditation is a voluntary process taken by the more reputable nursing programs to assure the public and other schools that a certain degree of quality and standardization is present. However, for nursing programs the accreditation process is purely voluntary.

    Schools such as Chamberlain, American Sentinel, Walden U, Grantham U, Grand Canyon, U of Phoenix, and Kaplan U have accepted unaccredited BSN degree holders into their MSN programs in the past.

    Thank you all for your comments. I have contacted chamberlain U. The person that I spoke with is to call me back to let me know if I will be able to ged admitted to their program. When I asked him whether that will be a problem, he told me he has to find out. He did not know the answer.

    Walden University online will accept you. I did not go to a NLN accredited program because they chose not to buy the accreditation at my school but I had no problem returning to Walden University to complete my MSN. Also, usually your college will have agreements with other colleges around the same area that are accredited institutions to accept students from their school to further their education. For instance, the school I went to had 5 agreements with 5 different colleges that were accredited that would accept the ADN grads to be able to further their education to BSN or MSN :) Good luck to you!
