BSN to MSN or DNP

Hey all!

I am an ICU nurse with a BSN and an end goal of obtaining my DNP with an ACNP focus. My question is, what is everyone's thoughts on doing a BSN to MSN program vs BSN to DNP program? I'm getting the itch to go back to school so I'm trying to decide which would be the best option.

Thanks everyone!

I'm doing a regular MSN path which I think it is the BSN to MSN? I have my BSN through OU so it is the regular MSN for FNP.

I'm doing BSN to DNP. However, the program I'm going to (hopefully) attend awards both the Masters & the DNP if you're in the BSN to DNP program.

MSN programs are usually two years full time, and some BSN-DNP programs are three years full time. It depends on your goals, what do you want to do in two years as opposed to three years. In the end, I think you want your DNP, so might as well get it done now than later.

Go to the best quality program you can and don't worry about whether it is a DNP or MSN right now.

Dee279, have you decided which route you are going to take? I have to make that decision too, BSN to DNP or BSN to MSN, then DNP later.

SopranoKris,

if you don't mind, what school are you doing your BSN to DNP program? How is the program? How many years is the BSN to DNP?

I value the idea of working as an NP sooner and going back for the additional DNP certification.

Felicia3277,

That is the one reason I think I am going to do the masters route and go back for my DNP.

Noski, I think I'm going to do the BSN-MSN & then work on my DNP while working as an NP!
