Hey! I am applying to start in May. Did you end up there??
Hi no i don't think i'm applying there, it sounds like a good program but they're not even accredited yet.
But I called the AZ board of nursing and the Texas BON (where I'm from) and they said that its not a big deal to be provisionally accredited esp with Brookline because they know the reputation of the school. My friends went to schools that were provisionally accredited and they never had probs, even tho some of the schools didn't become accredited for 1-3 or so years after they graduated. Do you live in AZ?
Yes i live in AZ.
So where did u end up applying?

I looked up tuition.....it's almost $50K! That's a huge expense and/or student loan, especially if it will be a while before you find a job.
You should be able to find a job once you pass the board exam.
I thought RN jobs were scarce right now? Is it the job market getting better? Hopefully?
Nurses are the highest in demand right now within the medical field. If you dont find one in AZ, you will def find one somewhere else.

um.... no, no they're not. the ones in demand are nurses with 1-3 years hospital experience, definitely not new grads. and unfortunately with a lot of states near bankruptcy, medicaid health programs are being cut. this has resulted locally in banner on a raise/hiring freeze. if the additional cuts happen that brewer is pushing, it is expected that 2000 nurses will be laid off in the valley.
as far as the people i have known who have graduated in the last 4 years, the ones who got jobs quickly (and by quickly i mean 6 months post grad) were ones who already worked at a hospital and had that "in". the others... one took 3 years, one put in 412 applications until she got a job, and a few are still looking.
you are right that you can find a nursing job elsewhere, but these are mostly rural communities throughout middle america. not a lot of people want to make the lifestyle change for that.

I agree that the job market is tighter but good nursing students get jobs, some are even asked to apply for a job during their clinical experiences if they are noticed for superior care by the unit nurses and manager. And health care reform is coming in 2014 which will add 35 million people to the rolls of those who are insured...creating a significant increase in the demand for nurses. Finally, as the economy continues to improve and nurses retire who have been unable to do so or they move back to part time positions, the nursing shortage will once again hit with full force.
