Bridging Program in Australia

Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.

My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much. :clown:

(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)

Hi! Im just new here. I am waiting for my LOE from AHPRA. How long does it take for them to release LOE? Thanks.

Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - Registration Process

If your application is considered complete

Your application for registration is complete if AHPRA has received all the information required to complete an assessment. Refer to the relevant section of The Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 (1.26 MB, PDF) (the National Law). The standard timeframe for the assessment of a complete application is:

Up to 10 days for graduate applications***

Up to 10 days for provisional to general applications

Up to 10 days for specialist applications (where general is already held)

Up to 4-6 weeks for all other application types. However, complex applications, including those from overseas, may take more time.

*** Due to the significant increase in the volume of graduate applications received during the end of year graduate period (October – January), the assessment timeframes of complete graduate applications may take up to 4-6 weeks.

Delays may be experienced if AHPRA is awaiting the results of international criminal history checks from an approved supplier. However, in most cases this check will be available by the time the registration application has been assessed.

For further information, please refer to the International criminal history checks page.

Afaik, most of the required immunizations should have been administered while being a student-nurse doing your clinicals otherwise you would have been at risk. Of course, each school has its own policies but it would be prudent to be vaccinated as a health worker/student. As such, what you need now is to get in touch with those that provided your vaccinations and get certifications.

If you did not get vaccinated then, then the earlier your start, the better.

- HepB needs at least 3 doses at 0, 1 and 5 months with a serology of >10 mIU/ml to be valid.

- MMR 2 doses at 1 month interval

- dTap 1 dose

- Varicella (unless you had chickenpox already)

- TB screening (TST/PPD) + Chest x-ray

- Influenza (recommended but not required)

Oh, If I may offer an unsolicited advice... if you intend to migrate after getting registered with AHPRA, it would be advisable to check out the requirements for ANMAC assessment and DHA for visa requirements.

While many documents may be the same as AHPRA, some like Professional References requires specific formats.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I did not receive any offer from ACFE, so I will be going to ETEA in June instead. All the best to you!

Hi K3LL2! I am also enrolled at ETEA Perth June intake. Are you also going there?

Hi everyone! With regard to serology/immunization requirements by ETEA, it has a recommended timeline of completion, it should be completed before the commencement of the course or before the placement in hospitals? I hope someone could enlighten me with this concern. Thank you!

What is your concern regarding immunizations?

That immunizations be completed before clinical placement is primarily for the safety of all persons in the hospital... be it the student, patients or co-workers.

In most cases, these vaccinations were already a requirement even during clinical placements as student-nurses... even as pre-employment requirement. Some hospitals also offer boosters as part of benefits.

As such, it becomes as matter of getting copies (photocopies) of those immunization records and/or certifications.
