hey everyone. i am new to the website so im not sure how all of this works. i have a question that maybe someone can answer. i finished LVN school in december of 07 and took my nclex in jan only to find out that i didnt pass. i live in texas and here you have to wait 45 days to test again. when you fail your nclex in texas, you lose acess to your permit to work as a graduate vocational nurse. so i studied every single day and took my test again yesterday. we have the quick results here so i should find out at 8am tomorrow. just have a question. i stopped at 85 and feel like i was guessing at alot. well i have checked the website about 100 times today and my results are still not ready. i went to look on the BNE website and my license isnt on there, but my permit is back on there. im wondering if anyone has some advice on what this means or any advice at all that would help.

Moved to the Texas Nurses forum more more responses.
so living in california, what made you move to ft. worth? did you move for a job?
I moved because many of the LVN positions in Fort Worth are higher-paying than the ones in my home state of California. In addition, I can live very nicely here on my income.
are you working at a hospital or different type work?
Nursing homes pay well in this area, while the hospitals tend to pay LVNs poorly. And I'm all about the money.
yeah i know what you mean. before i failed my test i was working with my permit and the hospital i am working for started us off at 13 but i worked nights so i made 15 and i have 6 pts max. some others went to work at a nursing home but i think the most that one made was 17.50/hr and then they have like 18 pts. i just dont think i could do anything with that many patients.
Hospital nursing = 6 unstable patients that require a lot of your time
Nursing home = 20 to 30 stable patients that require almost no time
Personally, I'd rather work with 30 easy patients than 6 needy patients any day of the week. I have a low tolerance for stress, so I'll stick with the nursing homes for now.

do nursing homes pay lvns more in most cities, or does this just apply to the dfw area? also, do ltacs pay the same as nursing homes or are they considered nursing homes as well? i'm not a nurse yet, but i just wanted to get a feel of what direction i should go in. if anyone has an idea of what the starting pay for nursing homes versus hospitals is in the houston area, that would be greatly appreciated.

While I was waiting for authorization to test from Pearson Vue, I called Texas BNE to ask when I'd receive my temporary grad permit. The BNE said that they issue the temp permits at the time the applicant receives the authorization to test. So the second time you received your ATT, you were issued another temporary grad permit :)

Hi, I am a little confused. I thought that as a new RN grad you only had 75 days as a GN and in that time if you fail your NCLEX, you lose your position as a GN and even if you reapply to take your NCLEX you will no longer be able to work as a graduate nurse, you could only work as a tech depending if your hospital still wanted to hire you. Could anyone clarify this, I will be taking my nclex soon, and I am worried sick about losing a job offer. Thanks!
i can clarify this for you. i know from a personal experience. when you graduate, you have a temp permit that allows you to work as a gvn or gn. if you fail your test, you automatically lose acces to your permit and can no longer work as gvn/gn. if you fail nclex, once you reapply, you DO NOT get another pemit to work with. you cant work anymore until after you pass your test. most places will let you still continue to work but in a different position. for example, i failed my nclex the first time and was changed to position of ward clerk where i put in orders, made follow up appts, stuff like there. but your salary will definetly change. hope this helps. let me know if you have any more questions.
