Hello future Nurses:)
1- Im very confused with the whole calculating of the 4 prerequisites. can some one explain to me in a very detailed manner how it actually works? I'm transferring over but every time I call the nursing department they seemed bothered to answered any questions. They were just rude and not helpful. The lady I spoke to told me that the GPA is based on Everything I have taken and that its an overall GPA that they look at (every class). Now after reading all these forums I understood that the GPA is calculated by only the 4 prerequisite classes. so really what is it??? my understanding from reviews students have shared is that if I get As on all 4 prerequisites that my GPA is a 4.0. is this correct? Now what the lady in the nursing department gave me to understand is that it is not this way. My GPA is going to be calculated from every class i've taken. Is she right or are the students right? PLEASE HELP !
2- im currently going in with a 2.0 GPA but im retaking my 4 prerequisites to ace them with As. If I pull this off and I ace the HESI A2 exam with a high grade do I have a shot at entering the night/weekend Nursing program even though my grades from my other schools weren't good???
3- If the students are correct and the GPA is based on the 4 prerequisites is it the same for the night program? for instance they calculate your GPA on the 4 prerequisites like the morning program or does the extra classes the night program requires get factored in ? for instance the 4 prerequisites plus CHEM,BIO, and the other classes? example(As on 4 prerequisites and A in chemistry, A in BIO2, A in the other classes = 4.0) or is it (As in all 4 prerequisites =4.0) is the GPA calculated the same as the Day time nusing program?

All CUNY nursing colleges are extremely competitive specially Hunter College. You need a minimum of 3.8 GPA on your prerequisites, just my 2 cents.
I know that its competitive. im taking over all the classes I got low grades in so that I can get an A in them im just curious about how the GPA is calculated in BMCC. Many students claim that its calculated only on the 4 main prerequisites. I wanted to know if thats true

They calculate the 4 Prereqs and look at your over all GPA. FYI, you cannot take those 4 prereqs again. They only calculate the grade you got the first time, unless your A&P is over 5 years old. Hope that helps
thank you for responding.
im currently in HCC and my GPA is 2.0 when I transfer over I will not transfer over the grades I have. I will retake all my classes to get As in them. If I do this will my GPA go up drastically or will my old grades that I didnt transfer still hinder my GPA once im in BMCC?
You can take any classes over to raise your overall GPA, but the 4 prerequisites. I think for bmcc they are, English 1, A&P, math104, and psychology 101. If you have taken some of those classes they will take whatever grade you currently have unless your a&p is over 5 years old, then you have to retake. Also once you transfer your GPA is back to 0, so instead of retaking classes just take what you're missing and get good grades.
Are you attending or do you attend BMCC. im currently in the process of transferring over. I called the Nursing the department and inquired about transferring the 4 prerequisites. the lady in the department stated that if i took these 4 classes in another school and didn't get the grades that I wanted that I can ask for them NOT to be transferred over and That i will be able to retake the class for a better grade. This might be something new but it works in my favor :) i have an opportunity to retake the courses and bring my GPA up to good standing.
I used to go to BMCC, now I attend city tech. Having the choice of what can be transferred is not something I have heard of before it might be new. I would call again and speak to someone else to confirm.

I have personally done this before. I believe this only happens when you transfer into a community college

Day program: Mat 104, Eng 101, Psy 100 and Bio 425.
Evening program: Above classes PLUS Bio 426, Bio 420 and Psy 240 or Soc 100
These are the classes that factor into your GPA. If you haven't take chemistry, you need Che
121 before you can begin any
of the other science classes. You need an overall 3.8 (I think).
The above plus for HESI score is what is used for entrance into the program. If you tie with another student, trey look at your overall GPA (classes relative to nursing).
Good luck.
Sorry for the typos, typing on my phone.
ok so you are saying that the for the night program the 4 prerequisites make up the GPA they look into. Then is there is ever a tie between me and someone else then the GPA of those 4 classes plus
Bio 426, Bio 420 and Psy 240 or Soc 100 get calculated and that GPA is what breaks the tie. is this so ?
