Hello everyone!

I have an interview this week at Beth Israel in Boston...I was hoping that those nurses who have a job there could give me some insight on:

1) the interview process...how long are they, what q's do they ask or what should i ask?

2) The orientation.....length? what is it like as far as schedule, what do you do on orientation, etc.

Thanks guys!

Hi Liz,

Have been at BI for 10 months. The interview questioning will depend on the manager as they ask different questions. I cant tell you what questions to ask, but dont ask about lunch breaks But seriously, my interview lasted 5 minutes, on the other hand my classmate was grilled for 45 minutes. The orientation is about 9 weeks and may be extended if you need more time. The first week is classroom stuff, then the next 8 weeks or so you work with your preceptor. Usually you work the same schedule as the nurse you are orienting with. What starting salary did they quote you with? I am just curious as there is supposed to be a market adjustment sometime this month or next. What floor are you interviewing for?? Good luck!!!!

I worked there as a traveler, so do not know the answers to your questions.

But it was a very lovely place to work.

Hi Gerry 79,

Haven't received any info on salary yet, but I'll definitely let you know !!! thanks for the information! I'm being interviewed for Finard 4: MICU/SICU. 12 beds I think

I just interviewed in Nov and started in Dec. It's true it will depend on your manager. My interview with the nurse manager lasted 1.5hrs but was very nice.

I was considered a new grad RN but had been an LPN for 1.5 yrs so some of the questions I was asked was based on previous pt contact experience such as "describe a time that you had gone above and beyond for a patient." There were a few other "HR" type questions.

Some of the questions I posed to her are 1. what are your expectations for your RN's and how do you help them meet the expectations. 2. what are some of the things new employees on your unit struggle with and what resources are available to help 3. if there is a situation / problem on the unit how is it handled.

Good luck with your interview.

I've been at Beth Israel for a little over a year now. I remember when I interviewed at HR, it lasted no longer than a half an hour. When I interviewed with the nurse manager, it took maybe about 45 minutes, and she took me around the floor for a tour. Oh Finard 4 is over on the East Campus :) I don't remember the questions they asked me, but when it comes time for questions definitely ask about nurse-patient ratios, and what kind of support the NM can give you. All the best to you and hopefully you get the job! :)
