Best Workplace 2010

Hi there,

Before working at a hospital/facility, what are the most important things you take into consideration.

Please list as many as you think appropriate.

For me, the following matter:

1) Pay

2) Low stress levels

3) Relationship between staff (nurse-nurse, MD-nurse, manager-nurse)

4) Location

Thanks for you input :yeah:

Hmm, gonna go with these...

1) Support given to staff/good management

2) Good orientation/learning opportunities

3) Relationships with coworkers

4) Pay/benefits

5) Growth/improvement of hospital

6) Location

I like employers that provide me with work!

Specializes in ICU, MedSurg, Medical Telemetry.

1) good relationship with coworkers

2) no mandatory overtime

3) good orientation

4) supportive environment

5) location

At this point the only thing affecting my decision was:

Do you hire new grads :)

Now that I'm working, I'm grateful to be where I am but if I were to look elsewhere I'd be most concerned with

1.) Adequate staffing

2.) Nursing assistants

3.) Computer charting

The money wouldn't matter much if the workplace couldn't support its nurses in these aspects.

Specializes in L&D,postpartum,acute rehab/medsurg.

Don't forget scheduling! Your job can be great but if the schedule is awful or inflexible it can be rough.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

I always thought the biggie for me was great co-workers. I have had a couple incredible jobs as an LVN where teamwork was fantastic, not so great at my current job. I believe that's one of the things that makes me want to seek out other opportunities.

1. Adequate staffing

2. Adequate orientation

3. No mandatory overtime or on call (we are required to take 24 hours on call each pay period).

4. Teamwork

5. Respect among all staff

6. Pay

7. Educational opportunities

I dream BIG:rolleyes:

Specializes in MedSurg/Tele.

safe, fair nurse/patient ratio, good pay, well staffed, good orientation, equipment that makes the job easier and more efficient, respectful coworkers

Thanks to all of you for your response. It seems that most of are looking for the same things when it comes to work. Pls. keep on posting your responses and at the end I will put up a graph or pie chart showing this in a more easy to see format.
