:balloons: Welcome Kahoro! You will probably hear each of us claim that our own states are the BEST!!!:rotfl:

All the states are nice but it depends more on whether you want to work in a big city or a little city. Is the climate a factor for you? Would you like to work in a big hospital or a little one? Let us know what you want and we will tell you the place that you might feel most comfortable in.

i like working in big hospital , especially in emmergency departments i've done abit of (acls) course with american heart association not sure whether my cert will be recognized , climate also a factor im in kenya where i've never seen snow storms :rotfl: never been in extreme hot condition , but im sure im flexible iwill adapt in any :balloons:

do RN nurses go further en specialise in epidimology there?

Sorry but unless you go to either Tasmania or the Snowy mountains you won't find much snow!!! The bigger cities like Sydney and Melbourne can be very expensive to live in. The best bet is to go to a website like thinknursing.com which is the one that lists RN positions for QLD and have a look.

DON'T apply for any small (fewer than 50 beds) hospital and nothing "remote" because that will be well and truly alien.

We do have epidemiology positions for RN's but there is not a lot of them.

It's also quite nice over here in WA. We have large hospitals in Perth and smaller ones all the way up the coast. Not to mention great weather and beaches and apparently the cost of living isn't too bad in comparison to the east coast.:p :p Hope you'll be happy no matter where you settle, Good luck

gwenith's right, Melbourne and Sydney can be expensive places to live. On the other hand, they're also the best places to work from an emergency/trauma point of view. Not that I'm saying Casualties in other states aren't busy (don't flame me!) but with higher population density and increased specialisation, there's more going on.

The other advantage to a capital city (in any of the states) is that you've got a bit more flexibility if you find one hospital doesn't suit you, or of you want to move out of emergency into another department.

PS In snow season Melbourne's only a short(ish) drive to the snow! Of course, it rains a lot here...

It's doesn't rain a lot in Melbourne - it rains buckets!!! And it is {{{{{{freezing}}}}}}}} The only thing between you and Antartica are a couple of cold penquins and a few frozen Tasmanians - and those Tasmanians don't stop much wind.;)

thanks , gwenith Will'smum talaxandra :balloons: you're oasis of comfort , > :rotfl: you made me have an idea of whats like to work in a place like sydney , Melbourne......... despite the high cost of living i think it's a better place coz you have diverse activties going on and the high population, life may be a bit hard to a new fellow , like me , but i believe that you can take a big step if so indicated you cant cross achasm in two small jumps!! now , what about epidimiolgy no one ever mentioned i may sound abit conflicting im an emergency nurse the thinking of epidimiolgy :uhoh3: , i need to know , a change is good as a rest , i feel that here in kenya we're not doing much in side of research ,

"Freezing" indeed! 'll have you know it's currently a very balmy maybe twelve degrees at the moment! And it hasn't rained on two days - hah! Still,a t least we have weather down here ;) Be warned, kahoro - in Queensland they have two seasons - hot and dry (with a chance of wind) or hot and wet :chuckle In Melbourne we have such a lot of weather there's even a well-known Crowded Hourse song about it, "Four Seasons in One Day" - as we say, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it'll change!

Sorry I can't help much on the epidemiology front :o Melbourne or Sydney would certainly be your best bets, though. Melbourne had an infectious diseases hospital, Fairfield, that closed a few years ago. The Alfred got HIV/AIDS, and communicable diseases went to Royal Melbourne, from memory (any other Melbourne nurses want to help me out?); I don't know the situation up north. Alhtough I suppose that's more ID than epidemiology, per se. I'll give it some thought and get back to y'all :)

talaxandra, hot dry with wind the fact people like you me live there , now the point im trying to drive in is that , although i have never been there, i have only experienced equator weather, i don't think weather will have a big impact on me , other wise i do appreciate your contribution, :balloons: two thumb up to you chaps in side of epidimiology here in kenya RN dip level some, opt to do a higher dip in epidimiology then go direct and do masters in epidimiology which now a problem come when you start looking for a job you find that the guy who did a degree in this will be considered the you left hanging :angryfire thats why i wanted to find out if nurses further studies en do such ,subject ,

there are others also doing public health , icu , health science , psychiatry , etc but only those doing public health reach masters ,,,,, the rest is specialization,

I KNOW you can do a Graduate Diploma in Public Health at Queensland University of Technology but I don't know how many jobs there are around in epidemiology - sorry!!!

Here is a link though

http://www-nceph.anu.edu.au/

There are a lot of jobs for infection control RN's though if that is what you are after.

Trouble is we could be talking different things here. If you are interested in the study of say tropical disease then JCU (James Cook Uni) has the reputation.

I use this search engine for all things Australian. http://au.anzwers.yahoo.com/

I think im ahead , i want to work as RN and im pround to be one then , also need to do further my studies , now let me come over then i think from there i will try to figure out which direction to take ,

are there so many male nurses  unlike kenya, we were only two in a class of 18 ladies !! where are you guys !
