For those who passed the nclex: which review materials (review books, textbooks, cd's, etc.) helped you the most to study specifically meds/pharm for the nclex? What type or method of studying proved to be the most effective (flash cards, etc.)? Please share any other tips you've used to study for meds. Thanks.

I felt so overwhelmed with pharm. I just studied a prototype from each class and the ones with therapuetic ranges...I got some hard med questions on NCLEX w/drugs I had never heard of...but still passed w/75. Good luck!

I also passed w/75 and I must say the I wasn't familiar with alot of the meds I got on the nclex. with that said.....I think nclex is more concerned about you being a safe nurse and the analytical type questions......
I took kaplan...and my instructor who was excellent said a good way to remember side effects is by doing the abc's of side effects. eg what does that med do to lungs, cardiovascular, blood pressure etc. and know the endings of the meds. I can not give the question, but I will say knowing the ends really helped me with at least 6 of the med questons.....
I have them for you...

pharma is one of my weakness subjects way back school but when i read saunders strategies book, oh my! it makes me feel at ease. it contains great guidelines and strategies how to answer pharmacology questions correctly. i also used 2007 mosby's nursing drug reference (my daily pharm bible!!)

I used Mosby's Pharmacology NoteCards: visual, Mnemonic, and Memory Aids for Nurses written by Zerwekh, Claborn, Gaglione, and Miller. Some of the pictures on this notecards are really funny and making easier to remember some difficult things like insulin peak!
This list was also very helpful to me!!!:biggringi

Hi everyone,
I got my quick results today and I've passed!
I would like to give some general rules regarding psychiatry drugs:
1) Cannot be taken with alcohol, stimulants, depressants.
2) Cannot be given to pregnant, lactatingand patients with glaucoma.
3) Cannot be abruptly stooped but mus be tapered slowly
4) All are given after meals except anti anxiety agents( because food interferes with their absorption)
5) All psychiatry drugs have anti cholinergic side effects:
Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention
