Hi everyone,

I'm from the USA and wanted to know if you could please give me some names of agencies that I could connect with. I'm interested in working as an RN in another country.

Thank you!

Lauren

Are you fluent in any other language? (If not this will limit opportunity as well as not being an EU citizen ). Countries in the EU are mandated to hire local citizens then EU citizens before expanding to non-EU citizens. Are you a traditional BSN ( not ABSN or online BSN) as that is the minimum degree for most countries. Do you meet the licensing requirements for any other country for example UK nurses are specialist trained in adult, mental health, child or intellectual disabilities.

What country do you wish to work in? There are hundreds each with their own barrier to practice from educational & clinical requirements to language requirements and citizenship

Thanks for your response.

Here are the answers to your questions:

I am not fluent in any other language

I received my BSN from University

I am not sure what you mean by meeting the licensing requiremts but I have cardiac, med surg, ER, and pediatric experience. I've been an RN for almost 9 years.

Honestly, I want a country that has nice weather most of the year. I hate the cold and snow.

First you need to decide which English speaking country you wish to live & work then look at the licensing requirements. For example if you wanted to go to Australia you need to review the licensing requirements for internationally educated nurses on the APHRA website.

Some agencies will promise the world but have no influence on licensing and visas and only seek to ensure their own profitability rather than secure a safe and appropriate placement for the nurse. Just like some agencies are encouraging nurses to enroll in an aged care certificate program as a way to Australia however this does not entitle the candidate to work as a nurse nor does it meet work visa or immigrant requirements. But the recruiters promise the world and the nurse is left with no job, significant expenses and no work visa

What she means by licensing requirements is that each country will have their own requirements that you have to meet before they will give you a nursing license for that country. This is not something that the agency has any control over or can provide for you. You have to meet their requirements which usually includes passing an exam in order to work in another country. Not being fluent in any other language will make your options pretty narrow. Other countries will require fluency in whatever their official language is, even if they do speak English.

Thank you for the information. Do you have a list of websites I can start my search?

Once you have an idea of which country you wish to live and work you can search the Nurse Registration forum regarding license requirements and then once you have met their requirements then you can look at the countries requirements although you may want to check them out as part of the selection process

You need to pick a country first.Where were you planning on going?

I'm not sure!

Do you have any recommendations?

You need to make that choice, no one can make that decision for you.

There are hundreds of countries however there are not too many warm/no snow countries with English as the primary language.

You have previously posted that you wish to bring your family with you and that may be an additional barrier unless you plan on shouldering all the costs for visas, transportation, housing, medical/insurance & education. On a visiting work visa you are likely to be expected to pay all of those costs for your family. Just something to keep in mind. I know some members on a work visa in Australia have been shocked at not only the insurance costs but that they are required to pay up front and seek reimbursement later for medical expenses. US insurance likely won't cover you while working abroad.
